Was graduated with BS. Chemistry in 1964 from Virginia Tech. Spent the next 25 years as an Army Officer in the Infantry, Aviation and various staff jobs. Married in October 1964 to Candace Jean Davis, FCHS '64, had a son. Bryan in 1965 and that marriage ended in divorce in 1971 after two tours in Vietnam. First tour was spent flying reconnaissance airplanes. Second tour I was commanding officer of a company of 20 UH-1 helicopters with the 1st Cavalry Division. In 1973 I married again to Frances Ann Miller, who had four children from a previous marriage whom I adopted. Over the next 10 years I was assigned to Ft. Benning. GA, Kitzingen and Heidelberg. Germany and then the Pentagon, living in Fairfax. Frances died of cervical cancer at Walter Reed Army Hospital in 1983. She was interred at Arlington Cemetery next to my father. In 1984 I married tor the third time to Phyllis E. Phipps, an Air National Guard officer on active duty in the Pentagon. She has a daughter. Mary Budres, from a previous marriage. Remained assigned to the Pentagon until retirement from the military in 1988, took a day off, then went back to work at the same desk as a contractor doing information technology work. From 1988 until 2005 I was primarily a database administrator and application programmer for the military. In late 2005 we bought a house in Solomons, MD and I quit working in order to get our house in Fairfax Station. VA ready to sell. It went on the market in February 2006 and sold within a week, right as the housing market started heading south. We subsequently bought a condominium in South Palm Beach, FL and live there half

the year and in Solomons, jD halt. life is good!

I can remember our graduation as jf it were yesterday. Wish I could remember what I had for dinner last night!

My dearest friends in life include many of those classmates. Anne S, Cookie, Madge, Moni, Melinda, Kathy A, Vickie S, Karen Mcl, Ann C. and Allan B and the one and only Murray. I'm proud to have kept in touch with some of them; wish I could say "all" of them.

I've had a terrific life and am truly loving this "senior' phase. What's not to like? Early bird specials, medicare, afternoon naps. I am about to welcome my 8lh grandchild.

After a full (46 years and still counting) and rewarding career as a press secretary (Nancy Reagan; George H. W. Bush) and a public relations executive,l have slowed down to a ten hour per week schedule, working mainly from my home in Charlottesville.

Twelve years ago lwas widowed; my life was really shattered. The late, great Bill Tate (W&L Class of 58) died of a heart attack at age 57. And then 6 years ago the most amazihg thing happened. I met this guy. John Youel, recerttly retired surgeon from Charlottesville. We've been married for nearly 5 years anct:! marvel at every day. It's also a great time of life to have a n MD around to diagnose every ailment, real and imagined. LIFE IS GOOD!

- My life in the last 50 years has been wonderful. I've been married to Mickey Golden

- (1959 Class of McLean High School) for 45 of those years, We have two wonderful

_ daughters: Kate and Amy and, of course, the perfect two grandchildren. After three

years, I stopped working at the Smithsonian Institution's Department of Military History - and moved to Williamsburg where I worked for Colonial Williamsburg and Mickey

- received his law degree from William and Mary's Marshall Wythe School of Law.

- Gratefully we moved back to Northern Virginia where Mickey practiced law for

_ Thirty-four years. I loved being a stay at home Mom and working as a volunteer in the

community. We've had the enjoyment of traveling abroad and out to the West Coast

- with our families and many trips to the beaches on the Atlantic. As the girls were rapidly

- growing up I decided to go back to work and ventured into the hotel sales business. It

- was a wonderful experience working downtown again. As time passed I began to feel I

_ needed to work toward a retirement so I went back to the Federal Government and

worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a Management Analyst. In 2004 - 'I retired from the VA, and we moved to Elizabeth City, NC. Our little city is known as

- the Harbor of Hospitality as we host boaters for two free nights on our waterfront. We

- are known all over the world in the boating community. We both are very active in the

- community. I'm on the board of the Museum of the Albemarle and a member of the

Historic Preservation Commission. We are enjoying retirement in our wonderful Elizabeth City. If you're in the area. please give us a call. 'We would love to show you - around.

I was in Special Forces' Psychological Warfare .. our unit was trained to do a "Tokyo Rose" kind of operation. dropped behind enemy lines ml8-wheeler trailers full of broadcast radio stuff .. we never saw any action in the 1961-64 years I was in .. the Cuban Bay of Pigs was the hottest thing during those times.

The Summer of '64 found me working at Cape Kennedy/Canaveral, while waiting to go to college that Fall.

MORE EDUCATION #1 - what, after high school'!

While in the undergraduate years (1964-68) at Jacksonville University, FL, I decided that what I really wanted to do was to be an airline pilot; most US airlines required a BA, but didn't care what. the major was in, so r earned it in Psychology, while also pursuing Ilying lessons at a small, local airfield. Another simuhaneouspursuh while at JU was doing a little night club singing, at one of those revolving dinner restaurants atop Jacksonville's skyline. Following graduation from JU, I continued flight training, earning a Commercial Pilot's license wllnstrument Rating. Now I figured 1 was ready for the airlines .. but ran into the recession in the post-Viet Nam days: declining airline ridership, and LOTS of heavily-experienced pilots j US! getting out of the services. with whom I was competing for dwindling pilot jobs. My commercial flying prospects - KAPUI1

CRACKIN' THE BOOKS #2 - ad tile 14llncllmg of a career

So then it was back to school to leam something that might/should be really useful .. I earned a 1972 MS in Computer Science from Florida Institute in Melbourne. FL. and with that, I've done programming/software engineering ever since .. interesting industries: airline crew scheduling, lottery ticket creation, insurance services, helped Home Depot set up its corporate IT systems in Atlanta. banking applications. water treatment control systems, cellular telephone industry. and ~ IT SysAdmin for a structural engineering company.

STILL MO:RE BOOK CRACK/N' #3 - 'his is getting oIdl

In '95, what IT stuff I had learned 23 years earlier had gotten stale, so many advances had taken place in IT that I returned to night school and "refreshed" my MS by earning another one at Atlanta's Georgia State University by 2000.

Like for many, there have been periods of layoffs and disappointments .. during these times, meaningless jobs like a carpenter, truck driver, teaching, general clerical and telephone surveying have seen me through to better times.

THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD - bllt stiJJ a IIJtk I!I!IE!. book;"'. wrFt

Good, ol'Bama's rock solid Social Security system welcomed me into it's folds late last year .. and to keep me off the streets at night. I'm currently pursuing training for an Oracle Database Administrator's position .. wheee, here we go again! My sweetie and I live in Stone Mountain. a suburb of Atlanta; all of our chilluns live nearby - lucky us!

After graduation I attended GWU during the 1960-1961 school year. My father was_ . transferred to California in January of 1961 and I stayed on working full time and

, attending night classes until the summer of 1961. With two of my best friends we drove, across country in a zigzag manner until we reached Los Angeles.

I married my wife Della in 1963 and attended San Bernardino College on part time basis

, working full time at HMe Architect. s as a draftsman until I was drafted in November ofI • 1966. I was sent to Vietnam in November of 1967 and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 13lh Field Artillery. I served as Platoon Sergeant, legal clerk and Sergeant of the Guardfor perimeter defense. Our battalion was sent to Saigon one week before the Tel Offense __ and our assignment was to coordinate all combat firing missions lor the city. Our Charlie Battery was overrun on the second day of the offense.

After returning from Viemam I re.ioined~MC Architects in 1969 obtaining myArchitectural License in 1973. I retired from the 'firm in 2007 as the Executive Vice_ President and Senior Shareholder of the 500+ person firm.

I have 28 year old twin sons that were born in 1982. We have a two year granddaughternamed Lily Mae born to my son Joshua and his partner Danielle. Retirement is great and - it seems that there is always something going on every week. 1 fish in the Ocean and a_ regular basis including a remote village in Mexico where my fishing buddies and I go at

, least 3-4 times a year. Most of our other trips are overnight or two day trips out of San Diego fishing with my sons for Yellowtail, Albacore, Blue Fin Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna and Dorado (Mahi-Mahi), My wile and I also enjoy traveling and we manage to book at least one 14+ day cruises every summer. This years cruise is in September and the trip does not return (0 the US until 26'\ hence I could not attend the reunion.

I would enjoy hearing from old friends from FCHS.

The best part of this amazing spurt of time is that I have shared it with my FCHS sweetheart .. ~ Lynne Lovom .. , who was in the FCHS class behind us.

The early phase ... a year at prep school, then Roanoke College in '61 and UV A that summer. Then joined the Air Force, which sent me to Syracuse University to learn Russian. Lynne said yes to my proposal of marriage and left Mary Washington to become an Air Force wife. Did NSA types of intelligence work in Italy and Germany where we also traveled throughout Europe.

Returned to UV A for a BS in marketing and finance. Lynne used her abundant

secretarial skills to keep us fed. A professor who had founded one of the most Successful - marketing research companies in the US thought I had some potential and helped align support th_at led to my first corporate job with Market Facts, Inc., fourth largest research company m the US ... no~ known as SYD:0vate, Inc. I stayed with the company

throughout my career starting as a ~arketing research analyst and ending it as executive _ VP and a member of both the Amencas and Global Executive COmmittees. On my first g~~3~ere were 110 employees and on the last day, more than 2500. I retired in April

We've have been blessed with two sons '" Sean is 42, single, lives ill LA and does freelance motion graphics and computer generated animation work for clients like Fox Studios and Fox TV Network ... Brooks is 40, married to Jen, lives in Boulder, CO and is - a commercial photographer specializing in outdoor sports, automotive and location work for advertisers ... Jen is also a photographer and works for a specialty photo processing

business. No grand children yet! - - ------.........._

Lynne deserves most, ifnot all, orthe credit for raising Sean and Brooks, both of whom - share her great sense of humor. Lynne returned to college for her BS in Social Services _ when the kids were close to graduating from high school ... and she was social services director for a large nursing and long-term care facility for 15 years before retiring in

Where oh where did the years gal I stili feel the same until f look in the mirror or try to find my car in the parking lot. I spent the 60's, 70's and 80's raising two sons Patrick and Robert, and helping my husband John with the business we owned in Frederick, Maryland.

In the 90's I started a new life after the loss of my husband. Got a late start on a career but spent 13 years with an industrial chemical company in the Washington area. My real career began in 1997 with the birth of my first grandchild, Patrick John and in 2000 and 2004 the arrival of my granddaughters, Riley Catherine and CaeU Anna. I finally found something I am good at-being a Gramma.

I retired in 2005 and my fife took another direction, volunteerlsm. I found my way to the National Aquarium in Baltimore and spend hours observing dolphins, learning about fishes. birds and all types of aquatic life. Who knew that scales. fins and feathers could be so much fun?

I have made three trips to EI Salvador with my church to visit our sister parish. I have learned how to be truly thankful for what life has given me.

For the past five years I have helped out with the USOat BWI Marshall Airport. I have met many wonderful members of our Armed Forces, shared in their joyous homecomings and held the hands of family members left behind.

What is in store for me in the next 50 years, who knows but I look forward to the ride.

Since launching from Falls Church High in 1960, my parent's relocated to Patrick AFB, FL, and after a summer of lifeguarding at the base pool, I became a Buffalo at the Univ. of Colorado in Boulder. I didn't take my studies too seriously with all the fun outdoor activities to enjoy and after my second year my parents decided it was time I moved home and settled down to a job so J could pay for my own tuition should I decide to complete my college education. That said, I began part time work on base and went to school part time. After a year of buming the candle at both ends, I was fortunate enough to have my parents match my savings and I went to Boston to attend a one-year intensive school that specialized in teaching business careers. With that diploma in hand and with my remaining savings I attended FSU in Tallahassee as a full time student and graduated with honors in 1965, pretty much on

schedule.

Two weeks later I applied to Boeing in Florida and after a year transferred to my permanent location in Seattle, WA. That career lasted almost 30 years and ran the gamut from executive secretary to management all in the Flight Test organization. Working with the Boeing test pilot staff was the highlight of my career and I juggled flight schedules, arranged interviews, greeted dignitaries, wrote or edited biographies and flight articles for PR purposes and worked with-embassies to process passports and obtain visas for foreign airplane demonstrations. It was a dream Job and when my husband. Jerry. retired in 1990 and I quit to help "on the farm", it was a bittersweet departure from an exhilarating but high stress way of life. I officially retired in 2004,

We moved from the city to the country in 1989 and began life on 40 wet acres which included a 1920's farmhouse, milk house, silo, a forest and the possibility for many animals, large and small. Our first dog came from a bachelor pad down the road, cats soon followed and then came an eight month old horse and two donkeys of undetermined age. Since then we've had several dogs, many cats; the horse is now 21 and one of the donkeys is in her 40's. When we're not farming I'm riding my horse, woodworking, gardening. or hiking the beautiful mountains we're surrounded by. Jerry's summers are full of maihtenance work on Ihe land, growing dahlia's, and gardening.

We've been fortunate and healthy enough to ski all over the Northwest, Colorado, France, and British

I Columbia. Flown our private airplane to Canada, Mexico, Florida and the Bahamas and more recently traveled to Portugai, Spain, and Italy. We plan to keep this up for another 50 years!

After graduation from FCHS, I attended Mary Washington College for 1 1/2 years, before working on Capitol Hill for Senator Thomas Dodd. When my family moved to San Francisco (my dad was stationed at 6th Army Headquarters). I thought it would be fun to go west for a visit. I've wound up staying for 45+ years so far. I took a job at a San Francisco law firm to rebuild my bank account after spending my savings on my cross country trip, which included a stopover in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I met my husband Ron at the law firm; he was a part time clerk while attending law

. school. We married in December 1965. I put my education and career on hold for a few years to raise two sons, but I eventually went back to college for a bachelor's degree in history and got a master's degree in Public Administration from UCLA. My professional career included work in county administration for two California counties - Lake, a rural county in Northern California, and Marin, a suburban county across the Golden Gate from San Francisco. My husband worked for the California Attorney General for most of his career. We are now both happily retired, enjoying life in Petaluma, a town of 50,000 in the California wine country, traveling. and enjoying our 5 grandchildren (2 boys, 3 girls - ages 4 to 8).

Mid Years: Went back to work as a Sales Engineer in Philadelphia when the kids entered schooL Moved to NYC area and joined AT&T in marketing. ELEANOR MOSHER COOK, CLASS OF )960

After graduating from Falls Church High School in 1960, I attended Madison College (now James Madison University) in Harrisonburg, Virginia, for one year. I married Don Cook in 1961; our daughters, Laurie Sanders of Warrenton, is a RN, and Donna Brooks of Fairfax, is a Contract Specialist. We have four grandchildren: Jake 27, Matt 23, Kevin 21, and Rachacl 20, and all live in Virginia (close enough for Gl3Ildma to still spoil them). 011 a sad note, my brother, Donald Mosher, FCHS Class of 1958, died almost two years ago.

After more than 30 years of federal service with the Navy Department, I retired in Apri I 1995. My career included positions as writer/editor, public affairs officer, and alcohol and other drug abuse education and training specialist. Each position was a challenge and a reward within itself.

Since I retired, I have been certified as a volunteer adult literacy tutor. Under a "welfare to work" grant, I developed an Office Basics Course and taught it for five years. I also volunteered at an early-stage Alzheimer's unit in a local assisted living facility for three years. Don and I have done quite a bit of traveling-from East to West coasts and to Australia. We just returned from a 6,000+ mile trip. visiting relatives along the way. Every time Don talks about maybe moving to one of the Dakotas, I take a firm stand that "I'm not moving to any state that keeps its snow fences up aU year and puts poles on the fire hydrants so they can be found!"

DOll and I will soon be celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary, I would not change one single second of my life, so far, as it took all it took to be where I am today!

Since graduating I married Don Williams, (class of '58) I had two children, Todd and Shawne. I have worked in several different fields fmally settling down as a Contracts Administrator and Financial Analyst for a small business with contracts for NASA. In 1995 Don and I retired to Florida which gave me an opportunity to explore the wonderful world of watercolors. I took a number of classes and workshops and also became involved with the local watercolor society, Brevard Watercolor Society. In 2005 I was elected co-president for 2 years and 3 years as treasurer. I seem to always somehow get involved with numbers, I also served as treasurer for our community association for 14 years. In 2009 I gave up both positions and decided to devote more time just to painting. I love doing children's and pet's portraits but really I paint anything that trips my trigger! I teach a beginning and intermediate class during the winter months when the snowbirds are in town. My cat paintings are hanging in our vet's office, my Italian paintings are in a local eatery and I also have paintings in the Briganteen Gallery in Cocoa Beach.

Fifty years is a long time since we all graduated from high school and I have had a blast during

those years. I have been very fortunate indeed to say the least. Where to begin after school I went

into the service and spent my three year obligation in Germany. While I was in the service my parents moved to Missouri and having no place to "return to· I followed them to Missouri. I then met my wife

f to be, Marlene Mover and we married in January 1966 so that Is 44 years of marriage by my count. We had four sons over the next seven years and spent a lot of time at little league events watching football, : baseball and wrestling. That was replaced by time watching those same sports at the high school level .

..

All four graduated from college, Missouri State, Universlty of Missouri and Oklahoma State. they

married and then started having more'little Simpson's. We now have 10 grandchildren ages 1 to 17 with

Marlene and f did an

exhaustive search on where to retire. I made a spread sheet with eight or nine locations around the

~ country and 50 questions. We spent the last five years of our working career traveling to these locations and rating them. We had a fun adventure doing thatl We even considered remaining in St. Charles, Missouri but we decided to move to Arizona because we were quite tired to cold weather. We have been in Arizona almost ten years and it has been a GREAT decision for us. We built a home in Sun City Grand in the Phoenix metro area, see the web site (WWW.GRANDINFO.COM).This is an age restricted area with 10,000 homes and four 18 hole golf courses. I must say after building two other homes we did a pretty good job designing & picking out our options.· After our children got out of college and working we all built a family cabin in the mountains of Colorado on 40 acres. This is the "SImpson Compound" and we have most of our family gatherings there. We were all together there at Christmas 2009 and we had a real Norman Rockwell event with huge meals, lots of outdoor activities,

After graduation I attended Mary Washington College for two years, and then married Buddy Godfrey, Class of '58. I started working for C&P Telephone in Richmond while Buddy was in dental school at MCV. We have a lovely daughter, Kimberly Anne, who is a graduate of West Virginia University and obtained her Masters at the University of Virginia. Kim is a Reading Specialist and is employed by the Arlington

· County Public School System. Buddy and I divorced in 1977, and I

:t . married Fred Boswell in 1979. Before Fred's death in 2004 we enjoyed

· tennis, golf and traveling together. Throughout the years I worked on

· my college degree and finally achieved it in 1987. Retired from Bell - Atlantic in 1991, I now work part-time for a friend who owns a large

- indoor sports facility in Springfield. I guess I'm one of the few who

- have stayed pretty close to home! I truly cherish my grade and high

- school memories and friends, and am blessed to have kept in touch with

- quite a few. I still enjoy traveling, playing golf, and gardening. All is

- good.

Katharine Vidnovic Hansgen

Following a year and a half at Mary Washington with an education major, I returned horne and almost immediately'found a great job as the head secretary for the Central Research Room of the National Archives and Records Service. During the next two years I learned a lot about Genealogy! r also got married to Alan Grip and left my job to have my son, Stephen. Following our divorce When Stephen was two, I returned to secretarial work for the General Services Administration. I remained there for over a year and then found my dream job at the newly formed Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMA TA). I was hired as the head secretary for the Office of Real Estate and spent years calming down property owners whose home or business was to be "taken" for the subway lines and supervising up to ten clerical staff members. I also married David Hansgen who worked for the engineering consultant for WMA T A and we had a beautiful daughter, Christina. Before I left Metro I had been promoted to the Special Assistant to the Assistant General Manager for Bus Service handling the liaison with Personnel and doing most of the writing for my boss! Sadly, due to some political issues, most of the staff jobs in the office were abolished and I found myself without ajob at 50 years old. Since most people are not thrilled to hire someone of that age, I started my own business, A Word Apart, Inc. (Writing, Editing, Proofreading and Typing) and Moonstone Studio (Yoga) which I kept going for over ten years. I then went to work for one of my Yoga students as her office manager until some rather serious health issues slowed me down (almost to a dead stop). I am now blissfully single, retired and a grandmother of three: Jack, Connor and Sabrina Rose. It certainly is amazing what can be crammed into 50 years of living!

_ Continuing my lifetime of frequent moves, (FCHS was my 11th school), I'm currently in -

Annapolis MD- my 59th home-and love it here in the heart of my Navy roots. A BEd _

- from University of Miami started my teaching career. which eventually morphed into the

- new field of heritage development and historic preservation. It's been rewarding over the -

- past 25 years as director for three state heritage areas to tell the stories of special places in-

_ New York and Maryland, as well as to work nationally to increase recognition of the

wide variety of people and places that make up our great COUDtry. Along the way I've - raised four terrific children and keep busy visiting their families in London, Columbia

- SC, Casper WY, and, bJessedly, here in Annapolis. Somewhere in the past was a 15 year -

• career as a liturgical glass artist, an area to which I plan to return now that I'm retired

• from formal employment.
