“.PICOS MACHINE.”
PCOS or Precinct Count Optical Scan machines . An optical scan voting
system is an electronic voting system and uses an optical scanner to read marked
paper ballots and tally the results.

An PCOS Machine including a video screen containing the projected names

of candidates or propositions being voted, utilizing a film strip containing individual
frames having images projected onto the video screen by a light source, wherein
photo-optical information transmittal circuits are actuated by the light source
projecting the voting image and, by means of controlled light sensitive areas on the
film strip, energizing phototransistor units in the system to activate voting buttons,
check film alignment, operate vote counters and identify the vote, whether it be
cumulative, a proposition or an ordinary vote, with the information furnished by the
phototransistor units being read by photosensitive logic units which transmit
information to the projector and counter units.
The hardware includes voting machine models with voter verified paper audit
trail (VVPAT), redundant memory, integrated printer, a touch screen supporting
multiple-choice election processes, tactile remote control, earphones and sip and puff
device for disabled voters, and an add-on voting pad device for use in complex
elections.
BENEFITS OF OPTICAL SCAN VOTING MACHINE

-These systems are that the voters don't have to learn to use a voting machine.
Physically able voters can simply use pen and paper to mark their intent. Some disabled
voters could use a machine to print a voted ballot, which can then be fed into the optical
scanner along with all the other ballots, thus preserving the secrecy of their ballot.

-Optical scan voting systems can allow for manual recounting of ballots.
Statistically relevant recounting can serve as a tool to detect or deter malfunction or
fraud. Once an error in the counting process is suspected a full recount can determine
the proper results.

-An advantage compared to DRE voting machines is that even if the optical
scanner fails, voters can still fill out their paper ballot, and leave it to be scanned when
the machine is fixed or replaced with a spare.

HOW LIGHT AFFECT THE PCOS MACHINE

The precinct count optical scanner is the best

election technology and it uses precinct count optical scanners to capture
pixelized images of each ballot and then process the marks on that image,”

It captures visual information and translates the image

into digital information the computer is capable of understanding and displaying.

PROPERTIES OF WAVE IN THE PCOS MACHINE

1.REFRACTION – AS THE BALLOT’S ENTERS THE PCOS MACHINE,IT
PASSES A LIGHT RAY THAT COUNTS THE BALLOT,IF IT IS VALIDATED.

2.INTERFERENCE – AS 2 WAVES MEET OR THE BALLOT AND THE LIGHT

RAYS INSIDE THE PCOS MACHINE. AND NEW FORM OF LIGHT WILL BE FORMED.

3.DEFFRACTION- AS THE BALLOT’S ENTER THE PCOS MACHINE.IT GOES

TO A BOX,FROM ITS OBSTACLE INSIDE THE PCOS MACHINE.
