GSPRITE!

Geographical history includes: How geographical features influenced people, how people
adapted to the geographic features, the physical location of civilizations.
G:
Geography Questions to ask: How does geography help to shape this society? Would this society/event have a
different structure/outcome if it occurred in a different part of the world? How did geography dictate
the economic structure of this society?

Social history includes: living conditions, gender roles, leisure time, family, morals,
race/ethnicity, social classes.
S:
Social Questions to ask: How is the social structure being altered or challenged in this instance? Are there
any social or cultural norms? Can you list specific examples that reveal the social aspects of this
civilization/country at this time in history?

Political history includes: politicians, kings, rulers, laws, government, generals, military
issues, battles, wars, elections, political parties, foreign policy, tax policies, rebellions
P:
Political Questions to ask: How did the government react in this instance? Did the role of leadership change
in this civilization/country? What was the government’s foreign-policy stance?

Religious history includes: God, gods/goddesses, religious books, the Church, religious
groups/movements, religious leaders.
R:
Religious Questions to ask: How did religion play a role in the development of the civilization/country/society?
How did religious divisions affect the coming of this event? Can you list the major religious leaders
who influenced this civilization/country/society?

Intellectual history includes: ideas, thinkers, philosophers, books, education, literature,


music, books, painting, clothing, architecture, drama/plays.
I:
Intellectual Questions to ask: How did the art, literature, or philosophy of this time period reflect the events
surrounding the artists or authors? How did a shift in thinking lead to this event? How did the rest of
society react to this shift in thinking?

Technological history includes: technology, inventions, machines, communication tools.

T: Questions to ask: How did the advancements made in transportation change the social and economic
Technology patterns at this time in history? How did new inventions lead to changes? Did new technology have a
positive or negative effect on this society?
*Remember* Technology is anything that makes life easier.

Economic history includes: money, taxes, trade, jobs, use of land, guilds, businesses,
barter economy vs. money economy, agriculture.
E:
Economics Questions to ask: How did government react to economic distress during this time period? Were the
economic decisions of the ruling party helpful to this country’s overall economic health? Did foreign
policy play a role in the economic decisions of this country? How did people make a living?

In your notebook, at the Top of each GSPRITE notes section, you need to define the vocabulary for the
section AND identify all major people. Once you have done these 2 things, go back through the section and
fill in the GSPRITE.
