Chapter 23

Of Singing of Psalms & etc.

1. We believe that singing the praises of God,

Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners
heard them.

Ephesians And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Ephesians Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making

is a holy ordinance of Christ, and not a part of natural religion, or a moral duty only;
but that it is brought under divine instutution, it being enjoined on the churches of
Christ to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; and that the whole church in their
public assemblies (as well as private Christians) ought to sing God's praises
according to the best light they have received.

Hebrews For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which
2:11 cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

commemorative token of redeeming love.
