َ As you conduct your wars think of others.
‫ال تنس َم ْن يطلبون السالم‬ Don’t forget those who want peace.

Think of those who only have clouds to drink from.

There are people who have no place to sleep.

‫فكر‬ Those who have lost their right to speak

‫حقهم في الكالم‬ And as you think of distant others

.‫ال يريدونني بينهم يا أَبي‬ They assault me and cast stones and words at me

‫والكالم‬
ِ ‫ويرمونني بالحصى‬ ُ ‫علي‬
َّ ‫عتدون‬ ُ ‫َي‬ They want me to die so they can eulogize me
‫يمدحوني‬

‫يريدونني أن أموت لكي‬ ِ They closed the door of your house and left me outside
‫وصدوا باب بيتك دوني‬ ُ َ ‫وهم أ‬
They expelled me from the field
‫الحقل‬

Oh my father, they poisoned my grapes

The butterflies stopped on my shoulder

َ The wolf is more merciful than my brothers

َ Oh, my father. Did I wrong anyone when I said that

I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon

I come from there

ٌ ‫ ولي‬.‫أنا من هناك‬ I come from there and I have memories 
 ‫ لي والدة‬.‫ولدت كما تولد الناس‬ Born as mortals are, I have a mother 
.‫النوافذ‬
ِ ‫وبيت كثير‬ ٌ And a house with many windows, 
.‫ أصدقاء‬. ٌ‫لي إخوة‬ I have brothers, friends, 
 .‫بارده‬
ْ ‫وسجن بنافذة‬ ٌ And a prison cell with a cold window. 
.‫موجة خطفتها النوارس‬ ٌ ‫ولي‬ Mine is the wave, snatched by sea-gulls, 
.‫لي مشهدي الخاص‬ I have my own view, 
 ‫زائده‬ ٌ
‫عشبة‬ ‫لي‬ And an extra blade of grass.

Mine is the moon at the far edge of the words, 
،‫قمر في أقاصي الكالم‬ ٌ ‫ولي‬
ٌ And the bounty of birds, And the immortal olive tree. 
 ‫خالده‬
ْ ‫وزيتونة‬ ،‫ورزق الطيور‬ ُ
I walked this land before the swords 
‫مررت على األرض قبل مرور السيوف‬ ُ
Turned its living body into a laden table. 
 .‫مائده‬
ْ ‫حولوه إلى‬ ّ ‫جسد‬ ٍ ‫على‬
I come from there.
.‫أنا من هناك‬
I render the sky unto her mother 
 ،‫أعيد السماء إلى أمها حين تبكي السماء على أمها‬
When the sky weeps for her mother. 
 .‫عائده‬
ْ ٌ
‫غيمة‬ ‫وأبكي لتعرفني‬
And I weep to make myself known To a returning cloud. 
 ‫القاعده‬
ْ ‫يليق بمحكمة الدم كي أكسر‬ ُ ‫مت كل كالم‬ ُ ‫تع ّل‬ I learnt all the words worthy of the court of blood 
،‫مت كل الكالم‬ ُ ‫تع ّل‬ So that I could break the rule. 
 ‫واحده‬
ْ ‫وفككته كي أركب مفرد ًة‬ I learnt all the words and broke them up 
...‫الوطن‬
ُ :‫هي‬ To make a single word: Homeland.....

RITA AND THE RIFLE
‫ بندقيه‬. . ‫بين ريتا وعيوني‬ Between Rita and my eyes there is a rifle
‫والذي يعرف ريتا ينحني‬ And whoever knows Rita kneels
‫ويصلي‬ and prays
‫إلله في العيون العسليه‬ To the divinity in those honey-colored eyes
‫وأنا قبلت ريتا‬ And I kissed Rita
‫عندما كانت صغيره‬ When she was young
‫وأنا أذكر كيف التصقت‬ And I remember how she approached
‫بي وغطت ساعدي أحلى ضفيره‬ And how my arm covered the loveliest of braids
‫وأنا أذكر ريتا‬ And I remember Rita
‫مثلما يذكر عصفور غديره‬ The way a sparrow remembers its stream
‫آه ريتا‬ Ah, Rita
‫بيننا مليون عصفور وصوره‬ Between us there are a million sparrows and images

ّ ‫ ألحمد‬.. ‫هذا النشيد‬ I dedicate this song.. For ahmad, forgotten between two
‫مضت الغيوم و ش ّردتني‬ butterflies the clouds are gone and have left me homeless,
‫و رمت معاطفها الجبال و خ ّبأتني‬ And the mountains have flung their mantles and concealed me
‫ نازال من نحلة الجرح القديم إلى تفاصيل‬.. ..From the oozing old wound to the contours of the land I
‫البالد و كانت السنة انفصال البحر عن مدن‬ descend, and the year marked the separation of the sea from the

In cars, in the landscape of the sea,

In the intimate nights of prison cells

In quick liaisons and in the search for truth was

In every thing, ahmad found his opposite

‫ أول‬، ‫ كتابات أسخيليوس‬،‫ آراء امرأة في الرجال‬،‫في الفجر‬ hesitation, the aroma of bread at dawn, a woman’s point of
‫ وخوف‬،‫أمهات تقفن على خيط ناي‬
ٌ ،‫حجر‬
ٍ ‫ عشب على‬،‫الحب‬ view about men, the works of Aeschylus, the beginning of
love, grass on a stone, mothers living on a flute’s sigh and
.‫الذكريات‬
ْ ‫الغزاة من‬
the invaders’ fear of memories .

ُ ٌ‫ س ّيدة‬،‫أيلول‬ ُ

after forty, the hour of sunlight in prison, a cloud reflecting
‫هتافات شعب لمن يصعدون إلى حتفهم‬

a swarm of creatures, the peoples’ applause for those who

‫وخوف الطغاة من‬ ،‫باسمين‬
face death with a smile, a tyrant’s fear of songs.

We have on this earth what makes life worth living: on this

ُ‫ على هذه األرض سيدة‬:ْ‫يستحق الحياة‬
ّ ‫على هذه األرض ما‬
earth, the Lady of Earth, Mother of all beginnings, mother
‫صارت‬
ْ .‫ كانت تسمى فلسطين‬.‫ أم البدايات أم النهايات‬،‫األرض‬
of all ends. She was called Palestine. Her name later became
.‫ أستحق الحياة‬،‫ ألنك سيدتي‬،‫ أستحق‬:‫ سيدتي‬.‫تسمى فلسطين‬ Palestine. My Lady, because you are my Lady, I deserve life.

State of Siege
‫نحب الحيا َة غدًا‬
ُّ Tomorrow we will love life. 
ُّ ‫ص ُل الغَ ُد سوف‬
‫نحب الحياة‬ ِ ‫عندما َي‬ When tomorrow comes, life will be something to adore
ْ‫ عاد ّيةً ماكرة‬،‫كما هي‬ just as it is, ordinary, or tricky
ْ‫آخ َرة‬ َّ ‫رماد ّية أَو ُم‬
ِ ‫ ال قيامةَ فيها وال‬.. ً‫لونة‬ gray, or colourful…stripped of judgement day and
‫وإن كان ال ُب َّد من َف َر ٍح‬ purgatory… and if joy is a necessity
‫فليكن‬ let it be
ْ‫خفيفًا على القلب والخاصرة‬ light on the heart and the back
‫من المتم ِّر ُن‬ ُ ‫فال ُي ْل َد ُغ‬
ُ ‫الم ْؤ‬ Once embittered by joy, twice shy
ْ ‫ َم َّر َت‬... ‫من َف َر ٍح‬
!‫ين‬ [To a killer:] If you reflected upon the face 
َ ‫تأم ْل‬
‫ت َو ْج َه الضح ّي ْة‬ َّ ‫ لو‬:‫قاتل‬ ٍ ‫إلي‬ of the victim you slew, you would have remembered

،‫ال معافي‬ً ‫فيكبر طف‬ would forget the time of the siege and grow up a healthy

ُ ‫ويد ُر‬ child reading at school, with one of your daughters

َ ‫تا ِريخَ آسيا‬ the ancient history of Asia. 
.‫وقد يقعان معًا في ِشباك الغرام‬ They might even fall in love
.)‫بالوالدة‬
ِ ً‫(وتكون يهود َّية‬
ُ ً‫وقد ُينْ جبان ُابنة‬ and give birth to a daughter [she would be Jewish by birth].
‫ت إذًا ؟‬َ ‫ماذا َف َع ْل‬ What, then, have you done now?
، ً‫ك اآلن أَرملة‬ َ ُ‫صارت ابنت‬ Your daughter is now a widow
ْ
‫يتيمة ؟‬ ‫والحفيدةُ صارت‬ and your granddaughter an orphan.

ْ‫سرتك الشاردة‬ ‫ت ُبأ‬ َ ‫فماذا َف َع ْل‬ What have you done with your scattered family?
‫حمائم بالطلقة الواحدةْ ؟‬
َ ‫ثالث‬
َ ‫ت‬ َ ‫وكيف أَ َص ْب‬ And how have you slain three doves in one story?

‫ولمسة أمي‬ Her touch
‫وتكبر في الطفولة‬ Childhood memories grow up in me
‫يوما على صدر يوم‬ Day after day
‫وأعشق عمري ألني‬ I must be worth my life
،‫مت‬
ّ ‫إذا‬ At the hour of my death
!‫أخجل من دمع أمي‬ Worth the tears of my mother.
‫إذا عدت يوما‬، ‫خذيني‬ And if i come back one day
‫وشاحا لهدبك‬ Take me as a veil to your eyelashes
‫وغطي عظامي بعشب‬ ّ Cover my bones with the grass
‫تعمد من طهر كعبك‬ ّ Blessed by your footsteps

‫بخصلة شعر‬ With a lock of your hair

‫ والثلج أسود فوق مدينتنا‬،‫للحقيقة وجهان‬ Reality is two-faced.
،‫لم نعد قادرين على اليأس أكثر مما يئسنا‬ Black snow falls over our city.
‫والنهاية تمشى الى‬ We can,t despair any more than we already have.
‫السور واثقة من خطاها‬ The finale walks to the wall
above tiles drenched with tears
‫ واثقة من خطاها‬،‫فوق هذا البالط المبلل بالدمع‬
with steadfast footsteps.
‫ نحن أم هم؟ ومن‬:‫من سينزل أعالمنا‬
Who will take down our flags, us or them?
‫سوف يتلو علينا (معاهدة الصلح) يا ملك االحتضار؟‬ Who will read out the Peace Accord to us, O King of Fall?

What did you do to our citadel before this light of day?

You didn,t fight because you feared martyrdom.

Your throne is your coffin.

،‫ انتظرها‬،‫المرصع بالالزرود‬
ّ ‫بكأس الشراب‬ Wait for her with an azure cup.
،‫ انتظرها‬،‫على بركة الماء حول المساء وزهر الكولونيا‬ Wait for her in the evening at the spring, among perfumed roses.
،‫ انتظرها‬،‫المعد لمنحدرات الجبال‬ ّ ‫بصبر الحصان‬ Wait for her with the patience of a horse trained for mountains.
،‫ انتظرها‬،‫بسبع وسائد محشوة بالسحاب الخفيف‬ Wait for her with the distinctive, aesthetic taste of a prince.
،‫ انتظرها‬،‫بنار البخور النسائي ملء المكان‬ Wait for her with seven pillows of cloud.
،‫ انتظرها‬،‫برائحة الصندل الذكرية حول ظهور الخيول‬ Wait for her with strands of womanly incense wafting.
،‫ فانتظرها‬،‫وال تتعجل فإن اقبلت بعد موعدها‬ Wait for her with the manly scent of sandalwood on horseback.
،‫ فانتظرها‬،‫وإن أقبلت قبل موعدها‬ Wait for her and do not rush.
،‫ وانتظرها‬،‫وال تُجفل الطير فوق جدائلها‬ If she arrives late, wait for her.
If she arrives early, wait for her.
،‫ وانتظرها‬،‫لتجلس مرتاحة كالحديقة في أوج زينتها‬
Do not frighten the birds in her braided hair.
،‫ وانتظرها‬،‫لكي تتنفس هذا الهواء الغريب على قلبها‬
Wait for her to sit in a garden at the peak of its flowering.
،‫ وانتظرها‬،‫لترفع عن ساقها ثوبها غيمة غيمة‬
Wait for her to lift her garment from her leg, cloud by cloud.
،‫وخذها إلى شرفة لترى قمرًا غارقًا في الحليب‬
And wait for her.
‫ وال‬،‫ قبل النبيذ‬،‫ وقدم لها الماء‬،‫انتظرها‬
Take her to the balcony to watch the moon drowning in milk.
‫تتطلع إلى توأمي حجل نائمين على صدرها‬
Wait for her and offer her water before wine.
‫ومس على مهل يدها عندما تضع الكأس فوق الرخام‬ ّ ،‫وانتظرها‬
Do not glance at the twin partridges sleeping on her chest.
،‫ وانتظرها‬،‫كأنك تحمل عنها الندى‬
Wait and gently touch her hand as she sets a cup on marble.
‫تحدث اليها كما يتحدث ناي‬ As if you are carrying the dew for her, wait.
‫إلى وتر خائف في الكمان‬ Speak to her as a flute would to a frightened violin string,
‫كـأنكما شاهدان على ما يعد غد لكما‬ as if you knew what tomorrow would bring.
‫ولمع لها ليلها خاتما خاتما‬
ّ ،‫وانتظرها‬ Wait, and polish the night for her ring by ring.
:‫ إلى ان يقول لك الليل‬،‫وانتظرها‬ Wait for her until Night speaks to you thus:
‫«لم يبق غيركما في الوجود‬ «There is no one alive but the two of you.
‫ إلى موتك المشتهى‬،‫ برفق‬،‫فخذها‬ So take her gently to the death you so desire,
»...!‫وانتظرها‬ and wait.»

‫أيها المارون بين الكلمات العابره‬ O those who pass between fleeting words
‫ وانصرفوا‬،‫احملوا اسماءكم‬ Carry your names, and be gone
‫و أنصرفوا‬، ‫وأسحبوا ساعاتكم من وقتنا‬ Rid our time of your hours, and be gone
‫واسرقوا ما شئتم من زرقة البحر ورمل الذاكره‬ Steal what you will from the blueness of the sea and the sand of memory
‫ كي تعرفوا‬، ‫وخذوا ما شئتم من صور‬ Take what pictures you will, so that you understand
‫انكم لن تعرفوا‬ That which you never will:
‫كيف يبني حجر من ارضنا سقف السماء‬ How a stone from our land builds the ceiling of our sky.
‫أيها المارون بين الكلمات العابره‬ O those who pass between fleeting words
‫ منكم الفوالذ والنار ـ ومنا لحمنا‬،‫منكم السيف ـ ومنا دمنا‬ From you the sword - from us the blood, From you steel and fire .. from us

‫ ولد في العام‬،‫ الجيء من قرية الفالوجة المهجرة التي تقع بين مدينتي غزة والخليل‬،‫وليد أيوب فنان فلسطيني شاب‬
‫ بدأ وليد مشواره مع‬.‫ حيث ترعرع ودرس الديكور والتصميم الداخلي في عمان‬،‫ في مخيم الوحدات في األردن‬1973
‫ حيث أقام في مدينة‬،2000 ‫ عاد وليد إلى فلسطين في العام‬.‫ حيث إفترش الرصيف ليرسم المارة‬،1990 ‫الرسم في العام‬
‫ أقام‬...‫ فصارت له عنوانًا دائما‬،‫ مفترشًا زاوية من زوايا ميدان المنارة‬،)‫رام اهلل من دون هوية (إلى أن حصل عليها مؤخرًا‬
.‫ كما شارك في العديد من الفعاليات الفنية واألدبية والثقافية‬،‫وليد معارض عدة للوحاته‬

Waleed Ayyoub is a young Palestinian artist, a refugee from Al-Falouja – a displaced village between
Hebron and Gaza -, he was born in 1973 and raised in Al-Wihdat refugee camp in Jordan. Waleed studied
interior design in Amman, where he started his journey with art in the streets of Al-Wihdat refugee
camp (1990). Walid returned to Palestine in the year 2000, where he stayed in Ramallah without an ID
(until he got one recently), where he practices his art at a corner on the Manara Square, which became
his permanent address. Waleed held more than one exhibit for his artwork, and he participated in many
artistic, literary and cultural activities.

Peace and Freedom Youth Forum (PFF)

‫ قررت مجموعة من الشباب الفلسطيني – وفي محاولة لتشكيل شبكة شبابية جماهيرية تمثل‬2005 ‫في شهر آب من العام‬
‫وترعى تطلعات شريحة الشباب اإلجتماعية والسياسية والثقافية – تشكيل منتدى شبابي مستقل تحت مسمى منتدى السالم‬
‫ ستركز “حسم” عملها من أجل خلق مساحات للشباب لممارسة النشاط‬،‫ كمنتدى مفتوح أمام الجميع‬.”‫والحرية الشبابي “حسم‬
‫ والعمل بطرق حرة ومستقلة من أجل تغير‬،‫ استعمال طاقاتهم ومخيالتهم اإلبداعية بحرية‬،‫ عكس واقعهم وتطلعاتهم‬،‫الفعال‬
.‫واقعهم الحالي لما تصبو له تطلعاتهم الخالقة‬

‫ فمفاهيم السالم والحرية ضرورة أساسية من أجل‬،‫لتحقيق هذه الفكرة يتوجب توفر “السالم” و “الحرية” على األقل كمفاهيم‬
”‫ تعمل “حسم” على توفير بيئة مسالمة وحرة تمكن الشباب من “إمتالك‬.‫النشاط الفعال والنضال ضد كافة أنواع الظلم والهيمنة‬
‫ فـ “حسم” تؤمن‬،”‫ حرية‬،‫ تغيير‬،‫ ومن نفس المنطلق جاء شعار المنتدى “وعي‬.‫مستقبلهم – والذي يجب أن يكون حرًا ومسالمًا‬
‫ لذا فالخطوة األولى بهذا اإلتجاه‬،‫بأن التغيير اإليحابي البناء البد أن يحصل بشكل تدريجي وباإلعتماد على قاعدة شعبية قوية‬
”‫ ووحده “التغيير‬،”‫ األمر الذي يمهد الطريق أمام التفاعالت الشعبية اإليجابية الالزمة “للتغيير‬،‫هي زيادة مستوى “الوعي” الشعبي‬
.‫اإليجابي البناء قادر على جلب “الحرية” الكاملة من اإلحتالل والتبعية والهيمنة‬

‫“حسم” – كجسم وفكر – بتفاعلها مع الوضع الحالي في اإلراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة تبني على تاريخ طويل وتجربة غنية‬
‫ فعلى مر عدة عقود كان لألجسام‬،‫لألجسام الجماهيرية الفلسطينية في نضالها ضد األحتالل والقمع ومن أجل الحرية والسالم‬
،‫الجماهيرية الفلسطينية بشكل عام والشبابية منها بشكل خاص دور مركزي في النضال من أجل الحرية وحق تقرير المصير‬
‫وهذا التاريخ والتجربة الغنية تمثل مصدرًا مهمًا لإللهام الذي ستضيف إليه “حسم” إبداعًا ومخيالت جديدة في محاولة جديدة‬
.‫وجدية لتوفير الظروف الضرورية لتحويل الطموحات والتطلعات الفلسطينية من مجرد أحالم ورغبات إلى حياة على أرض الواقع‬

‫كما أنه ولألسف فقد سارت التطورات واألحداث في العقد ونصف المنصرمين بقطاع الشباب الفلسطيني نحو التهميش واإلقصاء‬
‫من التفاعالت السياسية – اإلجتماعية الفلسطينية على نحو حول هذه شريحة اإلجتماعية من شريحة نشطة وفاعلة إلى شريحة‬
‫ فمنذ إنتهاء اإلنتفاضة اإلولى (في بداية التسعينات من القرن المنصرم) تراجع دور األجسام الجماهيرية والشبابية‬.‫مهمشة وعاجزة‬
‫ باإلعتماد على التاريخ‬،”‫ من هنا جاءت الحاجة والفكرة من وراء تأسيس “حسم‬.‫منها بشكل خاص إلى حد أمست شبه مشلولة‬
‫ والنسبة العالية التي تشكلها شريحة الشباب في المجتمع الفلسطيني‬،‫الفلسطيني الغني بتقاليد النضال والنشاط المجتمعي‬
‫ عامًا) ستتفاعل “حسم” بشكل نقدي‬24 ‫ من الشعب الفلسطيني تحت سن الـ‬%65 ‫(طبقًا للعديد من الدراسات والمسوحات فإن‬
‫ وإلهام مخيالت الشباب وقيادتهم ليصنعوا‬،‫وتقدمي وبناء مع الوضع الحالي في محاولة لتمكين األمل من أن يتفتح من جديد‬

In August 2005 a group of Palestinian youth decided to create their own independent youth forum in an effort
to form an influential grassroots movement that represents the social, political, and cultural aspirations of youth.
The group decided to go by the name of the Peace and Freedom Youth Forum (PFF). As a forum, the PFF works
at creating spaces for youth to get together, reflect on their situations, use their imaginations freely, and work to
change their living conditions, in their independent ways, and towards their own creative aspirations.
Essential for this idea to work is “peace” and “freedom” as notions, or necessary conditions for activism and resist-
ance against all forms of oppression and domination. The PFF works to provide a peaceful and free environment
for the youth to take ownership of their future, which itself needs to be peaceful and free. In the same context
comes the slogan “Awareness, Change, Freedom”, since the PFF believes that for positive social change to take place
it should be gradual and with a strong social base. Thus, first comes raising public awareness, which would intro-
duce the dynamics necessary for change, and only progressive constructive social change would bring freedom.
In its engagement with the current situation in occupied Palestine, the PFF, in its form and content, draws on the
long tradition of Palestinian grassroots activism against occupation and oppression and for peace and freedom.
For decades, Palestinian grassroots youth activism played a central role in the struggle for Palestinian rights and
statehood. This past provides the inspirations to which the PFF will add new imaginations and provide the condi-
tions necessary for the Palestinian aspirations to be lived.
But recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories have rendered youth marginalized and ineffective
in the Palestinian socio-political dynamics. Since the end of the first Intifada the role of the Palestinian grassroots
movements in general and the youth activism in particular have deteriorated to the point of almost non-existence.
This is where the idea and actions of the PFF are located. Building on the long Palestinian tradition of resistance
and activism, as well as the large numbers of young people in the Palestinian occupied territories (Statistics and
abstracts from different agencies suggest that 65% of the Palestinian populations are below 24 years old) the PFF
engages critically and progressively with the current situation in an effort to allow hope to bloom, inspire imagina-
tion, and lead towards a better future. A future where there is no occupation and no oppression. A future where
youth own their future and are able to shape it their own ways, progressively, democratically, and secularity.
Moreover, The PFF aims at giving the Palestinian youth aspirations and movement a global dimension through operat-
ing in cooperation and in solidarity with other Palestinian and International youth grassroots movements and groups.
