BAM Construction were carried out to meet stringent energy efficiency and
environmental targets.
Architect:

Project Value:
£2.6m

Project Duration:
10 months

The HVAC and Plumbing Services supplied to Vale of Leven Academy included
heating, cooling, ventilation, hot and cold services and air conditioning. The new
building is funded by the PPP scheme. CBES were contracted by BAM Construction,
the main contractor for the new school building.

Environmental approach
All the services have been designed with maximum Energy Efficiency and
Government Environmental Policies being very much in the forefront of the final
design solution.

The heating and cooling is derived from a ground source heat pump system that
involved the drilling of 40 bore holes each 44m in depth to ensure the required
water temperatures are attained to allow the systems to run efficiently.

Water for the flushing of the toilets is gathered in a rainwater harvesting system
and is distributed through each floor of the school via a network of copper pipe
work.

Fans and motors being fitted to the ventilation and A/C systems have all been
selected with high energy efficiency ratings and the efficiencies are further
enhanced by the introduction of auto transformers and invertors all controlled by a
“state of the art” bespoke Building Management System.

• Mechanical & Electrical.

Client Benefits:

• Significant savings in energy running costs.
