AECT 360 — Structural Theory Truss # Truss Analysis using “STAAD” GIVEN: The symmetric truss below supports a single concentrated load at the middle as shown. Use the following ‘* Wood allowable compressive stress = 675 PSI * Wood allowable tensile stress = 1200 PSI * Wood modulus of elasticity = 1,300,000 PSI * Steel cables allowable tensile stress = 21,600 PSI + Steel cables modulus of elasticity = 29,000,000 PSI REQUIRED: To be word-processed. No credit given if missing FBD's. 1) Determine the support reactions as well as the forces in all of the truss members by HAND CALCULATIONS. 2) Determine the stresses in all of the truss members by HAND CALCULATIONS. State whether the force is “Tension” or “Compression.” Also, state whether or not the members are acceptable based upon allowable stresses. 3) Using STAAD, determine the support reactions as well as the forces in all of the truss. members. Print out the results, and circle + highlight answers. 4) Using STAAD, determine the stresses in all of the truss members. State whether the force is. “Tension” or "Compression." Print out the results, and circle + highlight answers. 5) Prepare as “Summary” of results of the hand calculations vs. STAAD output. The results SHOULD BE THE SAME! If not, go back and check your hand calcs and/or STAAD. 2x__ Top Chord
