CHRIS VAN HOLLEN ‘10 Lovonae, Howes Oy nome “mores Congress of the United States 1 Sane ey Bouse of Representatives ae Washington, BE 20515 own M7 June 17, 2016 - Hon, Megan J. Brennan Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer United States Postal Service 475 Enfant Plaza, SW Washington, DC 20260-0004 Dear Postmaster General Brennan: am writing to you regarding the unacceptable quality of mail delivery service that many of my ‘constituents have been experiencing, Although the problems exist in many parts of my Congressional district, they have recently been most prevalent atthe Following two postal facilites: 1. Westlake Post Office, 10421 Motor City Drive, Bethesda, MD 20817 2. Wheaton Post Office, 11431 Amherst Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902 ‘The nature of the complaints fall in the following areas: Mail is often delivered to the incorrect address. Mail is not delivered for days ata time. A large bundle of older mail is then delivered after several days. ‘© Packages that have been marked as “delivered” in tracking information have not in fact been delivered, ‘+ Malis often delivered days and even weeks late, causing residents to receive bills after payments are due. # Despite hold requests, mail is still delivered even to homes that have been vacated. + After requests to hold mail expire, mail delivery does not resume, My staff has been in frequent communication with local post office managers to rectify these problems. Although corrective action has been taken in some cases, including placing mail alert cards at addresses and giving service talks to post office employees, the issues persis. have hosted several community meetings to enable residents to communicate concerns direetly to USPS staff. At these meetings, my constituents were advised to contact local management directly when problems occur. They were given cell phone numbers for management at each post office and told to allow 72 hours for issues to be resolved. Even this has not remedied the problems. ‘At this point, and in light ofthe efforts taken to work with USPS managers to improve service, I now seek your intervention. I urge you to investigate the reason for this level of unacceptable service and take the necessary measures to ensure that my constituents receive the quality of service that they deserve, | appreciate your attention to these issues and look forward to your prompt response.
