Research
Research supported benefits of Intramural Programs:

Good programs also develop physical fitness, enhance positive competition,

develop positive character, and give opportunity for leadership building. (Byl,
2004)
Those involved in physical activity tend to come to class ready to learn, have
improved concentration, and have improved overall academic performance.
(Byl, 2004)
The research correlates with the results from our surveys and student
involvement.

activity and that they learned valuable lessons the first
time around

Builds confidence and makes school more fun

I was nervous at first but now I can talk to larger groups more
confidently
It brought lots of people closer together
It got us speaking in front of students, so now it would be a lot
easier
It helped me communicate better, build confidence,
and to not be shy
I learned how to be a leader by being the speaker.

Culminating Activity Floor Hockey Tournament

What We Learned
1. Students were initially nervous, but gained
significantly in leadership and confidence
2. Short Lunch and Lack of Student Breaks is a Large
Factor to Consider for Intramural Programs
3. Flex Time is more successful than Lunch Time
4. Demo and sign up day may have been more successful
to get student involvement
5. Students appreciated the effort/organization involved
in leading a large group of their peers
