A community is the people and influences you are surrounded by onadaily.Ibelongto
the following communities Belmont Cragin, Chicago and Chicago Academy High School. The
community I feel most part of is Chicago Academy High School. I feel I am most part of this
community becauseImhereonadailybasisandmostofthepeopleidosocialize witharehere
everyday as well. Being part of Chicago Academy HIgh School affects the decisions that I
make.

The racial and ethnic makeup of Chicago Academy High School include: 22.8% White,
15.6% Black, 54.6% Hispanic, 4.9% Asian, 0.4% American Indian, Pacific Islander 0.2% and
two or more races at 1.5% (Chicago Academy High School, 2014). The gender statistics of
Cahs are 48% female and 52% male (School overview, 2014). The economic status of this
community shows that the low income of students happens to be 85.6% (Chicago Academy
High School, 2014). The total population of Chicago Academy High School is 510 students
(Chicago Academy High School, 2015). The leaders of Cahs are, Principal Joshua Vanderjagt
along withAssistantPrincipal,LydiaRyan,followedbyteacherswhoare alsoleaders(Staff List,
2015). These leaders have done much for our school. Theyve added fun extra curricular
programs such as the Gay Straight Alliances and EMBARC (Extra Curricular, 2015). The
sites of my community are the school gym, where all our athletic games take place(basketball
games, volleyball games etc). The library, where classes such as Aventa take place, aswell
as students just going on their freetimesuchaslunch,afterschool,beforeschool,nutritionrise

on Wednesdays.Thefootballfield,wherefootballgamesoccurandwherepepralliestakeplace
whileitsstillwarmoutside,ifnotthen,thenintheauditorium,anothercommunitysite.

The members of my community that Ifeelmostclosetoareoneofmyverybestfriends,

Cesar. The reason I feel so close to him is because we are just very alike. We have the same
taste in music, shoes, clothes etc We share almost everythingwitheachotherandgiveeach
other the best, honest advice we possibly could. He is always there when i need him and is
almost the only friend I speak to at CAHS. My decision to become a more to myself person,
along with doing better for myself and in school,hasbeenaffectedbyCesar.Heaffectedthese
decisions by showing me that it is okay to open up to people but you should definitely choose
very wisely. Along with telling me that anything is possible if I really set my mind to it, like in
school. He says he believes i can do big things while pushing me tobecomeamoreambitious
person. I am a very distant, quiet, yet open minded person. I like to show people the caring,
generous person I am. The experience at Chicago Academy High School that made me this
way was when imadenewfriendsandbegantorealizeeverytimewetalkedtheywouldranton
about otherspersonalissues, theirbusiness.I'velearnedtodistantmyselffromthosebad vibes
andnegativeenergy.
