theory of P.E, Rewarding
employment
opportunities, secure job.
What sort of teacher of P.E
do you want to be?
Confident, Knowledgeable,
respected, Successful
Why is this important to
you?
Being confident,
knowledgeable, respected,
successful are all
important traits to being
able to run a class
effectively.

Out of class
After coaching basketball
earlier this semester I
have also found an
interest in coaching young
people
Being enthusiastic is also
something which I was to
be and need to improve
on.
Having goals is also a
good way to become
successful.

What was enjoyable about

the practical experience in
which you have just
participated?

Meeting new people and

breaking past the
awkwardness.

Having a partner also

helped to get to know
people and made it more
enjoyable.

What made it enjoyable?

Laughter and having a

task to complete made it
enjoyable.

Teamwork and having

others to work with made
it somewhat more
enjoyable.

What learning was

facilitated during the
practical session?

How teaching by task

works to some extent.

What enabled learning to

occur?

Distinct and clear

instructions.

What is more important to

teach for, enjoyment or
learning?

I believe enjoyment as it
will encourage learning
and a lifelong passion for
P.E
Teaching by task is also
good for teaching large
groups of students.

Also some advantages

and disadvantages of
teaching by task.
Being comfortable is also
important in terms of
dancing.
While learning is
important I believe
enjoyment can be more
beneficial.

What was learnt in the

students?
How did the teacher
facilitate learning in the
Physical Education class?
How did todays skills
teaching sessions
enhance your
understanding of teacher
directed pedagogies?

Allows teacher to move

between and increases
social interaction between
class and teacher. Giving
feedback. Students can be
more independent.
Skill not appropriate for all

Restricted by teacher
knowledge
Teaching by task has
many advantages and

Engaging the students.
Feedback and involvement
Confidence in yourself and
the skill you are teaching
is important to keep the
class under control.

What did you learn?

Being able to stay

confident in front of the
class is important.

directed pedagogies?
What did you learn?

Individual feedback is
possible with students
that are able to cooperate
effectively.

How effectively do you

think your student
learning outcomes were
achieved (ie skills,
knowledge & attitudes)?

Relatively well,
engagement was a
problem due to netball
rings adjacent to the
teaching space and
students got distracted.

What evidence/examples
support your beliefs (e.g.
indicators of achievement
observed or heard?
What would you retain or
change if you were to

What did you learn from

the feedback you received
from your group?

Observing not much

behavioral change
supported that not a lot
was achieved toward the
intended outcomes.

students engaged, or
ways for students to
progress while still
keeping within the activity
Because it is hard to cater
for all skill levels,
variations on the activities
can help to keep everyone
engaged.
The skill was somewhat
developed however
students went to what
they were comfortable
doing
No testing was involved
but students just lapsed to
the comfortable natural
shot they have developed.
Having more ways to test
for improvement.

Potentially 1 more activity

to keep students
interested.
Also enthusiasm would
help and keep students
engaged.

What facilitated your

learning as a student in
todays Individual
Progression practical
activities?

Most was good, but

confidence was something
I need to improve on.
Being able to advance at
own pace and come to
grips with skills helped to
make me improve my
skills.

What inhibited your

learning?

Lack of feedback
potentially hindered my
progression.

Being able to self-assess

my own performance
helped me progress.

Being able to perform in a

comfortable closed
environment helped
facilitate my progression.

Lack of teacher direction

also may have caused
some students to become
confused.
Also being able to

practical activity?

learning?
What are you now
learning as a professional
teacher about the role of
pedagogy in teaching and
learning?

Pedagogy plays a larger

role than I had ever
thought in the way
students learn and lessons
are planned.

Provide an example from

the workshop you have
just participated in.

Problem solving allows

students to discover and
find an outcome
themselves.

What facilitated your

learning as a student in
this student centred
practical activity?

Being able to ask

questions definitely
helped my learning
experience.

What inhibited your

learning?

Lack of clear instruction or

what was intended also
did not help.

What do you consider to

be the key idea
influencing
teaching and student
learning outcomes using
these approaches?

Giving some direction and

foundation but not being
too involved, only when
needed.

Teaching can be described

as having an active or
passive role in student
learning. How would you
describe the role of the
teacher using studentcentred pedagogies?

More passive, being able

to let students form their
own ideas is very
important in terms of
achieving what is intended
with this style of teaching.

learning.
Being overly dependent
on the teachers guidance
Certain pedagogy can be
manipulated to achieve
certain learning outcomes.

Can help students to

improve their ability to be
independent which is what
may have been aimed as
an outcome with this
pedagogy.
Having some teacher
guidance in terms of what
was intended was very
helpful in my ability to
learn.
An example was no
feedback made it difficult
for me to be involved in
badminton as a long rally
was unable to be achieved
inhibiting my time to learn
effectively.
Being enthusiastic and
engaging can also help
students to care enough
to facilitate their own
learning.

Being active is for only at

times when a framework
or guidance is needed to
help facilitate such
learning.
