Grow your Career AnimationDialogue

Amy: Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We are now ready for
takeoff. Please clear the isle and fasten your seat belts.
Whitney: Are you ready?
Amy: Yes, review final checklist.
Whitney: Flight controls, free and correct, landing gear position lights, checked, fuel
gauges, checked, engines running, checked, flaps extended, checked, check list
complete. Speed, 80 knots. Takeoff speed reached, 130 knots.
Amy: Rotate
********************A little while later********************
Amy: Great! That was a perfect takeoff! I love this job so much!
Whitney: So do I, but I really want to be promoted from co-pilot to captain!
Amy: Don't worry, you'll get there someday! Don't you remember when we were
first introduced into this line of work?
Whitney: Oh yes, I remember, we were flight attendants
Amy: Yeah! and then we decided to grow our careers! I became a pilot and you
became a co-pilot, and this job is so much better!
Whitney: You can say that again!
********************Knocking********************
Amy: Come in!
********************Enter Belle********************
Belle: Hey guys, some of the passengers would like to know if it's okay for them to
take off their seatbelts now.
Whitney: I guess that would be alright! Tell them they can take their seatbelts off
now!
Belle: Alright! Before I go I wanted to know if I could ask you guys a question?
Amy: Sure, what did you want to know?
Belle: Well, I was wondering if you could tell me what it takes to become a pilot, I'm
getting tired of being a flight attendant.

Amy: We would love to tell you! As a matter of fact, we were just talking about
growing careers! If you want to become a pilot, some positions only require a high
school diploma and some additional training! FAA or Federal Aviation Administration,
requires all pilots to have these skills. You must also be able to read, write and
speak English!
Belle: Cool! I already meet those criteria! What else do I need to know?
Amy: Learning to fly involves, both hands-on and classroom knowledge! Pilots-intraining attend ground school or receive training through home study or with a
private instructor. These training sessions include radio communications, weather,
emergency procedures and FAA regulations. Flight training is done so that the
student flies with an instructor on board. As the student gains experience, he or she
then goes on to fly alone.
Belle: That sounds like it could be fun! Is there anything else I need to know?
Whitney: Yes, most professional pilot jobs also prefer that their pilots have a college
degree in aeronautic and aviation-related fields, and many pilots entering the
aviation field receive these diplomas. This is what Amy and I did. Jobs preferring
college diplomas include test and charter pilots. Positions requiring only a high
school diploma include flight instructor, ferry pilot and agricultural pilot. Jobs at
regional and major airlines almost always demand a bachelor's degree. Pilots can
attend college or university to receive flight training for a college credit.
Belle: Cool! I've always wanted to go to university! Amy? What are you planning on
doing after being a pilot?
Amy: Well, there are many things that a pilot can become! Like, an aerospace
engineer, an aircraft maintenance engineer, an air traffic controller, an airport
operations specialist or, you can work with Transport Canada.
Belle: Wow, I didn't realize there were so many options! What would you like to
become?
Amy: Well, after I finish as a pilot, I plan on becoming an airport operations
specialist!
Belle: Tell me more about what they do!
Amy: Well, an airport operations specialist works to help keep airports operating
safely and effectively, and if I want to grow my career further, airport operations
specialists can pursue careers in airspace management, wildlife control, runway
operations, airport management, firefighting and emergency response, security and
more!
Belle: What kind of education is needed to become an airport operations specialist?
Amy: To become an airport operations specialist, it requires an associate's degree
and it requires you to have some sort of experience in aviation!

Belle: Thats amazing! Whitney, what do you plan on becoming after co-piloting?
Whitney: Well, I hope to be promoted to becoming pilot, and after that, I haven't
really thought about it too hard, but maybe I could become an aerospace engineer!
Belle: Awesome, what do they do?
Whitney: Well, an aerospace engineer develops new systems and aircraft to meet
the highest standards for safety and performance. They work hard to develop and
design new aircraft flight systems, new propulsion systems, or they study and
analyse aircraft aerodynamics.
Belle: What does it take to become an aerospace engineer?
Whitney: To become an aerospace engineer, it takes a bachelor's degree in
aeronautical, or aerospace engineering, and a professional engineering license
could be required for some positions.
Belle: That's really cool, I didn't know that! Another thing I was wondering was, what
kind of skills do you need to have to become a pilot?
Amy: To, become a pilot you need to have an understanding of maths and physics,
an ability to understand technical information, as pilots need to know how their
aircraft works, excellent spatial awareness and coordination, good communication
skills, team-working skills, the ability to think quickly and make decisions in difficult
situations, the capacity to remain calm under pressure, discipline, self-confidence
and commitment, and, leadership skills, with the ability to give clear commands to
cabin crew and passengers.
Belle: Wow! That's a lot of skills! I'm very willing to learn them in flight training! If
its alright with you guys, I have one more question!
Amy: Sure! Go for it!
Belle: What are some of the things that I should have on my resume?
Whitney: Well, you should definitely have flight attendant on there, along with any
other form of work you have done! You should mention all of the skills you have and
all the education youve received. You should also mention that you are willing to
learn!
Belle: Ok thanks for all the info!
Amy: Your welcome, we hope to see you as a pilot some day!

********************Enter Erin********************

Erin: Belle! What's taking so long? The passengers are waiting for you!
Belle: Oh! I was just coming out!
Erin: Alright! Come on then!
Belle: Bye guys, thanks again!
Amy: Bye! We hope it helped!
