 3.2 First Aid Treatment

~First Aid Procedures for accidents

involving
Cargo are given in the cargo data
sheets.
~Liquified Gas tankers carrying toxic
cargoes should have medical first aid
equipment for accidents involving
those cargoes on board.
~This equipment includes oxygen

~Master or Responsible officer should

be familiar with the use of medical
first aid equipment.
~Professional medical treatment
should always be sought in cases
where casualities have been
overcome by toxic and/or irritant
vapours.
~Importance of labelling a patient
before removal from the vessel.

~IMO Medical First Aid Guide for use in

accidents involving dangerous
goods(MFAG) gives information
regarding medical treatment.
~MFAG gives detailed information
about signs and symptoms ,first aid
and the administering the antidotes.

 Reactivity

~1) Liquified Gas cargo may react in a

number of ways,such as :
- with itself
- with air
- with water
- with another cargo
- with other materials

 3.4 Flammability and explosion

hazards
~1) Most Liquified gas cargoes are
flammable.
~2) It is not liquids, but vapours
emitted from them , that burn.

at or close to their boiling point and
give off vapours readily.
~4) Flammable vapours can ignite and
