Position Description

Role:
Immunisation Nurse
Reports to: Director
WORKING AT VAXWORKS HEALTH
Vaxworks Health Services provides a range of health-related services focused on creating safer and healthier
workplaces and communities. We are one of Australias fastest growing workplace flu vaccination service
providers and we also provide education for health professionals in the provision of immunisation services,
first aid training and Work Health and Safety courses including a Certificate IV in WHS and the Queensland
construction industry whitecard.
In 2015, we are planning on increasing our range of services to include workplace drug and alcohol testing and
workplace rehabilitation services.

MAIN PURPOSE
To provide safe vaccination of adults and children, against a range of vaccine preventable diseases, mainly for
protection against influenza, in accordance with the Standards set by the National Health & Medical Research
Council and the relevant state Department of Health and the guidelines, policies and procedures established
by VaxWorks Health Services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide safe vaccination of adults mainly for protection against influenza, in accordance with the

2. Provide safe vaccination of adults and children against other vaccine preventable diseases as the
need arises.
3. Maintain immunisation skills and knowledge and CPR each year.
4. Ensure vaccines are stored in accordance with the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines and relevant
Drugs and Poisons legislation.
5. Ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to avoid any incidents.
6. Advise the Director of any incidents or adverse reactions.
7. Be familiar with the regulations and procedures of the clinic in accordance with VaxWorks Healths

8. Follow work health and safety policy and procedures.
9. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with legislative, industrial and organisational policy
requirements and standards in the areas of EEO and WH&S.

OTHER DUTIES
1. Provide coaching and support for other health professionals in the provision of vaccination services
where the employees range of skills, competence, training and /or experience are appropriate.
2. Other duties may be allocated by the Director. These will be in accordance with the employees range
of skills, competence, training and /or experience.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES


ESSENTIAL
Expert Knowledge and Skill areas:
Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of vaccination procedures
Ability to administer vaccines
Ability to administer CPR when necessary
Ability to converse with clients/parents/carers about vaccines and procedures
Ability to work effectively on your own and in a team environment
Excellent organisation skills, including the ability to vaccinate approximately 30 people per hour against
influenza.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation.
Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and continuous improvement strategies.
Understanding of Work Health and Safety issues in the workplace and EEO principles.
Ability to demonstrate Safe Work Practices
Ability to implement Immunisation Procedures and NHMRC Schedules
Qualifications
1. Current registration as a Division 1 Nurse with the Australian Health Professionals Registration Authority
2. Accreditation as nurse immuniser in the state/territory in which they are proposing to practice
3. Current CPR Certificate
4. Current First Aid Certificate
5. Current drivers licence
Required Experience and Knowledge
Experience working on immunisation programs, especially workplace based immunisation programs
Previous experience in unsupervised vaccinations
A minimum of five years experience as a Registered Nurse
DESIRABLE
Experience in coaching and support for other health professionals in the provision of vaccination services
Understanding and commitment to the provision of healthcare in non-traditional settings.
Experience working on workplace based immunisation programs

SELECTION CRITERIA

A completed course of hepatitis B vaccination or immunity

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
VaxWorks Health immunisation Nurses are employed under conditions commensurate with the Nurses
(Queensland Public Health Sector) Award 2004.
Alternatively, staff can elect to be paid as a contractor. Contracted Staff must provide an ABN as a sole trader
and will continue to be covered under VaxWorks Healths Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Workers
Compensation Insurances but will be ineligible for other benefits such as superannuation and minimum shift
length requirements. Contracted staff will also be responsible for reporting their income to the Australian
Taxation Office. Staff members considering this option are encouraged to seek independent advice.

Commencing Salary /
Range:

$50.26-$53.84 per hour (Nurse Grade 6 equivalent) plus 9.5% superannuation


(employees whose gross income is less than $450/calendar month are not
eligible to receive superannuation contributions)
$65.00 per hour as a contractor (plus GST if applicable).
