Portfolio Reflection Two

Ashley Davies
One assignment that has allowed me to
demonstrate my strengths is the Ripple Effect
warm-up. The objective is to 0 place an integer in
each square or cell, filling each bolded section or
room with all the numbers up to the number of
cells in the room without putting any integers
larger than the room. You also can not put an
integer next to each other unless the space between
them is equal to the number. This showed my
strengths in perseverance and problem solving. I
pushed myself to complete not only the mild
problem but the medium/ spicy one as well even though it was challenging. When a number
wouldnt work I would try and think of all the other possibilities that would work. Another
assignment that showed my strengths was the Graphing Polynomials HW #1. In this homework
I had to fill out a table asking for the degree, end behavior, maximum number of extremas, the
zeros and multiplicity, and the y-int that I had found from the given equation. After that I had to
graph it. This assignment showed my strengths because I didn't understand completely how to
solve it and it took me a long time to figure it out so I had stepped out of my comfort zone and
asked for an extension. Even though I had an extention I pushed myself to understand how my
peers solved it and I was actually able to get it turned in on time and only got part of one answer
wrong.
One assignment that was challenging for me was the maximization Exploration handout.
This was challenging because I was having a really difficult time keeping up with everyone else
and couldn't understand why we did the things we did to get the final answer. To be completely
honest I still don't know why or how we did it. Another assignment that was challenging for me
was the Polynomials Word Problems Practice #1, an I mean really really challenging for me. In
the homework packet we had to solve a series of word problems that lacked a lot of detail. In my
mind there was really no way to solve the problems. We didnt do any practice problems or
taught the skills that were necessary in completing the packet. We were given a week and a half
to finish it and yet I managed to turn it in 40% complete. I have no acceptable excuses as to why

it wasnt finished other than the fact that I really had no idea how to do it. I am most ashamed of
this work so I will be making an effort to come into office hours to complete and understand the
packet.
In my opinion, there haven't been any activities/ assignments that have brought our
class together recently, however weve all been working together to understand polynomials and
word problems. The class has been up and down in this unit. Weve been confused, frustrated,
relieved and successful together.
The most relevant thing I have learned this year is to take advantage of the help and
support my teachers offer me. Ive also learned that its really important to stay on top of myself
and keep my goals insight to motivate me. Ive learned this through my struggle with
Polynomials Word Problems Practice #1 HW.
I think I have earned an B in this class so far. Based on the way Judy is grading, I have
been excelling in collaboration and I have been working really hard to complete and understand
my assignments. Although I failed to finish one homework assignment Im working on fixing my
mistakes and growing in the future by not repeating them and going to office hours.
