THE RON CLARK STORY MOVIE REVIEW
The movie portrays the story of a teacher, Ron Clarks, first encounter teaching in innercity Harlem, New York. The movie shows the struggles of this teacher, who after seeing on the
news the dire need of New York City teachers, decides to leave his teaching position in Aurora,
North Carolina, and move to NYC to find a teaching job in a high-needs school.
Ron Clack has a good characteristic in this movie. He is brave, confident, clever, creative,
work hard person, and critical thinking. Based on the movie, Ron Clark always tries to find an
opportunity to solve a big problem in education. His interest is in the bad region that very needs
an education and a teacher who cares of that situation. If I reflect to the movie, his characteristic
is great role model for a teacher candidate to growing his/her passion.

Throughout the movie, I noticed several interesting methods that Mr Clark utilizes in

order to get to know the students better, connect with them and help them towards achieving
passing test scores, while learning invaluable lessons along the way. One thing that Mr Clark did
was that he visited each of his students home prior to beginning in order to try to get a better
picture of their lives and situations. Although this didnt go as smoothly as he had probably
planned, it did allow him to get a better feel for the community and the way in which these
students were living in their homes. At one point in his experience teaching, Mr Clark realized
that using rap music as a means of communicating ideas with his population of students would
probably be a more effective method than regular lecturing or class discussion. Thus, he created
a catchy rap to help his students memorize the Presidents of the United States, which served to
be extremely successful with his students.
This scene is significant because it is one of the first scenes in this film that is culturally
relevant, creative, frustrating and successful all at the same time.

Another interesting method that Ron Clark utilized in his classroom to try and set up a

stricter management, was the use of special classroom rules. Ron Clark actually adapted these
rules into some of his books, including his book titled, The Essential 55. Although it may
appear like it is a lot of rules for students to remember, or for the teacher ever to remember, some
are really mindless and common sense rules that students will actually find easy to follow once
they are in the flow of the classroom. Some of the rules he includes are:

1. We are Family
2. Respond properly to adults
3. Make eye contact
4. Respect others comments, opinions and ideas
5. Do not show disrespect with gestures
6. Always say Thank you when given something
7. Follow class protocols
8. You may bring a bottle of water to class
9. You are responsible for your messes
10.Follow along when we read in class

Although this movie wasnt a documentary, and had some fictional aspects, it truly honed
in on many of the critical issues that first-year and long-time teachers face when working in lowincome, crime-driven communities and schools. It was both motivating and inspiring to see a
teacher, such as Mr Clark, bringing in an innovative, energetic, and positive role model into these
childrens lives. Although all of these children have tough exteriors, they are unique individuals

who deserve someone to come in, teach them, give them hope that they can do anything they set
their mind to, and never, ever give up on them.

My Personal Opinions
Teacher as a profession in this movie, shows to me that Ron Clark did a great job and has
creative ideas to solve all of the problems in his classroom and the school it self. He has a big
passion in his heart for becoming a professional teacher, by knowing his motivation when there
was an educational problem comes to him. In my opinion, a good profession can be reach if there
is a passion, knowledge, and skill.

Ron Clack has a good characteristic in this movie. He is brave, confident, clever, creative,

opportunity to solve a big problem in education. His interest is in the bad region that very needs

Based on the movie, to getting close with the students, Ron Clark approached the
students by knowing their family background, students style, and students hobbies. Therefore, it
influences the school community from the principal, teacher, staff, parents, and the community
around the school. I think the role of the teacher in community member is start from the students.
Students bring the teacher with their various characteristic and background. In conclusion,
teacher must have an effective approach by identify the students characteristic and background,

develop it, and apply the result to the students and the community, and then it will influence the
community.

As an individual, the movie tells me a lot of things that can motivate me to becoming a
great teacher. In my opinion, this era teachers who care with an education are very rare.
According to my experience in my region, a lot of teachers only do their job if there is a good
salary. In my observation, they only teach and did not care with the students and the lesson it
self. Then, I voluntary taught there for two months and tried to share and motivate them from the
principal to the teacher event I still young and in the beginning of the third semester. Therefore,
this movie is recommended for teacher candidate, teacher, and principal to watch. The role of
Ron Clark in this movie shows to me, do not look for a good place to teach, but look for the
school that very need to change.

If I were Ron Clark, that situation can improve my skill to become a professional teacher
and motivate me to become one of the agents of change in education. Probably, I will see how
Ron Clark did. In other side, before I face that situation, I have to learn how to become a great
teacher.

Conclusions

Based on the story With Ron Clarks unending hard work, undying perseverance and

enduring faith dictates the success of each and every character in the story, that despite the tough
and wearisome task of the educating children whose undergoing different life situations, it is still
our faith and will that will lead us to the greater glory. This story is one of the best created films
at all time, inspiring not only teachers and educator but also ordinary people who find themselves
hanging on to that one great goal of achieving their dreams. The movie is highly recommended
to inspiring teachers like the writer, whose knowledge on choosing and applying teaching
strategies and techniques are still minimal. Helpful information on classroom and class
management is more than enough to give us ideas on how to deal with different types of the
students especially for problematic ones. Thoughts on multiple intelligence and global teaching
methods were shown which are beneficial for the students to acquire learning. In conclusion, the
main characteristics of professional teacher are person that has passion to become teacher it self,
a person who cares the educational problem, a person who has an initiative to take one step
forward, and a person who has knowledge and skill to become a teacher. I think a professional
teacher is who cares and has internal motivation to solve the educational problem and change the
education for bright the future.
