Objective: To expose students to the practical applications of the operations
management techniques studied in class.
Task:
Write a report based on the following task:
Identify two operations management techniques that you have studied in this
course (i.e. any two of inventory control (you may want to focus on JIT only,
traditional only, or overall concept), supply chain management, lean manufacturing,
scheduling, total quality management (you may want to focus on individual
concepts only such as Taguchi, Benchmarking, etc. or overall concept), statistical
process control, forecasting, or other techniques) and show (with explanation and
appropriate illustrations (diagrams/photos/figures, etc.)) how they are applied in
practice in a company/industry of your choice. You can get this information from
either actual company/industry visit (if this is your choice, you will have to make
your own arrangement for the visit) or from the internet or other appropriate
sources (in this case you need to properly acknowledge all the references that you
use in your report). The choice is yours.
Guidelines:
Length of the report: The write-up must be 1800 word 200 words. Please use
Words Word Count and shows the total number of words at the end of the write-up.
This is equivalent to 4 or 5 pages long (excluding title page, illustrations, Appendix
(if any), etc.). Note that the total number of pages must be 10 or less.
Font: Times New Roman size 12 }
Line spacing: One and a half (1)
Margin: Justified.
Max 3 students in one group
