MACEDONIAN ROMA

at the borders

Project goal:
Contribute to the understanding of the problem of Roma migration and exit refusals in the
aftermath of visa liberalisation

Activities:
Research of the situation of Roma when exiting Republic of Macedonia since the end of
2009 through baseline research and media analysis
Analysis of the court cases involving Roma applicants returned from the borders
Creating a resource center/database on Roma and visa liberalisation with the EU in
Macedonia (www.merc.org.mk)
Preparing and advocating policy proposals with recommendations on change of ill
designed policies/practices on Roma exit
Devising a practical guide for potential victims of discrimination on exit
Preparation of video stories and social media campaign
