Journal:
For the past two weeks I have been research UV induced repair gene damage and how it
develops into melanoma. Because there are very few articles on my topic, I [plan on utilizing the
research experiments that I have found to corroborate with the information I do have from the
articles.
I emailed/ sent letters to 10 organizations/ groups. I have heard back by two. Fred
Hutcherson provided some sources and a list of researchers that I could possibly use for advisors.
The NIH was more helpful with their response. The NIH director of public affairs provided me
with 3 articles that pertained to my topic, the contact information for a NCI researcher who was
researching my topic, and 2 book chapters that I would be unable to obtain otherwise without
paying a fee. I have read 1 of the articles so far, and plan to do the rest in the next day or so.
Also, I began reading one of the chapters, and it has proven to be very beneficial. I have read and
annotated the first few pages of one of the books, and I plan on completed the rest of that chapter
and the next book within the next few days.

I am writing my request for an advisor letters now and I plan on completing that and
sending them out soon. So far, I only have only 1 possible choice for an advisor, so I plan on
conducting more research on researchers who are completing experiments/ professors who major
in this field.
