Journal:
For the past couple weeks I have been continuing to gather information from the
responses I got from my business letters. I have found some more interesting information about
definite UVR induced repair gene damage in animals. Also, I have found information on the
various demographics and locations around the world where cases of Melanoma and UVR are
most abundant. Finally, I have found some possible advisor choices. I sent out some advisor
emails, but I have not received a response yet.
After talking to Dr. Perrot, she gave me the idea to survey the outdoor athletic programs
at RHHS and possibly other schools to find out how many the athletes know about the dangers of
Melanoma and UV Radiation induced repair gene damage, as well as how many of the coaches
are educating the athletes on the dangers of UV radiation. This opened up a new opportunity to
possibly make a substantial difference in the future because preventing the gene damage now can
save lives later. I plan on using the information gathered to either educate the athletic
departments on the importance of educating athletes, or by providing them with updated
information that they can then forward to their athletes to keep them protected as best as
possible.
