Last week, I conducted my first interview with a NASA employee who worked on
various atmosphere measuring/observing satellites and instruments. He provided important
information on Ozone depletion and how every day actions during today and as far back as the
90s are contributing to the current depletion of the ozone consequently adding to UV radiation
entering the atmosphere and causing damage. Even though the rate of depletion has decreased, it
is unknown whether the current damage can be reversed.
Also, I found an article discusses a lot of questions I had regarding the exact process of
UV induced damage. The article was insightful into the pyrimidine dimers that are the
photoproducts/ mutations of UV radiation. This article was crucial because there were numerous
gaps in my knowledge base resulting in many questions that were answered by this text.
Finally, I completed the 3 classroom presentations. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I
had to complete my cold class first, then neutral, and end with my warm class. Because of
this, my first presentation was nerve racking. I didnt know anyone and my voice cracked a
couple times. Then, for my second and third presentations, I was on crutches, which made
interaction with the audience very difficult because I had to just stand there leaning on my

crutches. My last two presentations were very difficult to properly carry out, but overall my
abilities improved tremendously and I learned a lot from these experiences.
