Effects of studying at a very early age

In Jean-Jacques Rousseaus Emile, Rousseau said that childhood needs to be nurtured freely from
restriction of libertyi (Rousseau 1762). Because children control their body and get self-worth through
playing games. Also children relieve negative feelings and learn to get along with other people while
playing. Therefore the most effective way of suitable education for early childhood is not receiving
standardized private education but a frolic. However, recently Korea seems to be in the grip of private
education fever and Korea parents fever of education exerts influence on infant children. Excessive
early education can have several physical and psychological effects on children.
First, receiving standardized and indiscreet private education makes sacrifice suitable time to
acquire adaptive phases for a period of babyhood. Early childhood is the chance to learn the basics of
physical, psychological, social and cognitive development as playing games with peer groups,
gamboling in the park and direct experiencing around themii.(Song 2008) At these periods, it is a child
abuse that deprives of their playing right and teaches by rote in crawl spaces. There are processes of
development in human and appropriate moments to achieve stage by stage.iii(Alan 2014) Thus children
need to be educated in proper stages for development of young children not in an early childhood
private education that is unsuitable for growth of infants. Also children are necessary to be provided
right circumstances for their appropriate steps and helped to grow personally.
Second, receiving early private education that only focused on intellectual development, children are
denied opportunities to interact interpersonal because it is not fit on infants development attributes.iv
(RITA 2015) Children can hardly concentrate on attention and can do intuitive thinking in infancy. So
they cant focus on and be interested in cramming method of teaching. While children are curious
about phenomena and want to find out status quo personally, they are intrinsically motivated to be
immersed in activities and go on a true learning experience. (Santrock 1900)v Therefore in an early
childhood, children must have first-hand experience, mix with their peer group and interact with adults
so that children can promote awareness development. Also children have to learn consideration and
cooperation to take an active part in playing and cooperative activity.
Third, Excessive early education environment can affect children to get intense academic stress and
the psychological burdens so it could hinder child development stage. (Santrock 1900)vi Excessive
study at a very early age would give children failures and frustration. Thus children are easy to lose
confidence and become lethargic in excessive studying. Therefore, it is desirable that parents provide
several playing to reduce negative emotions, enjoy entertainment and feel pleasure for childrens
psychological development.
These days in Korea, parents request extra curricula education for kindergarten. Parents preferred to
prepare for lessons to children in advance in kindergarten. In addition, children in Korea go to several

after-school programs every day. Many infants are demanded of early education as suppressing their
right to play. Excessive competitive environment and enthusiasm for education may have contributed
to negative effects on children such as sacrificing proper moment to achieve adaptive phases for a
period of childhood, denying opportunities to interact interpersonal and hindering emotional
development. Accordingly, parents should have recognition that childhood is a frolic moment and
provide suitable stage of development education to children.
