The morning after DART police arrested me for taking photos at the West End Transit Center, it's clear officers were doing everything they could to cover their butts.
This email - from the DART police chief (Spiller) to his deputy (Addison) was very clear - and completely wrong on the facts.
First, he was told to not talk to DART's PIO (Morgan) until after reviewing the incident report and talking about it. That email was sent at 732 am, the morning after the arrest.
Then, he conceded a shit-storm would take place over the arrest from the NATIONAL FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHERS ASSOCIATION in Washington. Ooops it does not exist. And for the record I am a member of the National Press Photographers Association. Chief Spiller knew that since NPPA forced DART to remove illegal No Photography signs from DART stations and invited DART to participate in right to photograph training sessions (DART refused).
He then notes to make sure emotions from DPD were not involved. We assume that means DART PD and not Dallas PD.

Do not respond to Morgan until after you review the incident report and you and |
talk,
Please review the incident report ASAP and insure this arrest was in accordance with
the guidance published for dealing with photographers.
The arrest of this person will generate a high level of involvement from The National
Freelance Photographer Group in Washington D. C.
WE must make sure emotions and info from DPD was not a factor in the arrest.

Hey Morgan you may not get this until the morning but | wanted to check on
something that's happening now. I'm told DART Police arrested Avi Adelman for
taking photographs at the scene of a medical emergency at the West End Station. |
was hoping you could find out why he would be arrested for something like that and
whatever else you can find out thanks JD Miles CBS 11 News 817-307-4616
