Project Proposal

Part 1
1. What specific area(s) within the field will be investigated researched
and/or studied?
Emotional intelligence
Adaptive leadership (and other leadership theories)
Leadership development
Relationship of the community to the leader
2. How will your knowledge or ability in the field be acquired,
developed, and demonstrated through the year?
A: Interviews have been very helpful
A: Scholarly articles and leadership journals
A: Business journals actually have a surprising amount of
information
DV: case studies on youth environmental leadership projects
DV: case studies on youth projects in general
DV: evaluation of programs and projects within HC specifically
DM: possibly a HC environmental leadership conference
DM: leadership course changed?
3. What will be the product(s) and/or outcome(s) of the advisor
relationship?
Relaying of information on the topic
Looking over papers and project ideas that I come up with
Helping me find other contacts within the field to interview or
gather resources from
Interview
Help analyze and evaluate the information I receive from other
interviews
4. What proven need will be addressed? What real problem will be
solved? What question will be researched?
The problem is the lack of guidance for students embarking on
environmental projects
Many projects are fantastic ideas, but then fizzle out after a short
while because the person leaves and does not have new coming
leadership in place, or funding runs out very quickly
Question could be: What are the necessary components of a
person and the process to ensure the sustainability of youth
environmental projects?

5. What is the intended audience for the project? Who, other that the
student, will learn or benefit as a result of the work? To whom will
the outcomes be communicated? For whom is the product or result
intended?
Other students in IM and IR classes around the county that are
doing some sort of environmental project
Students who are a part of club leadership and are maybe
struggling, maybe not
Adults involved with or wanting to get involved with certain
student run organizations or projects
Will be communicated hopefully to students struggling to get an
environmental project off the ground and students struggling to
keep it going
Result intended to help youth and the environment
6. Will the audience be local, state, or national?
Initially thinking mostly local, maybe at the county level
With the end result I have now, the concepts that I am thinking of
would be applicable to many other areas across the country, but
I have no idea at the moment how I would go about getting my
information and ideas out there at that scale
7. How will the product and outcomes be communicated to or
preformed for the selected audience? What will the outlet vehicle
be?
Possibly through a leadership conference
Possibly a publication that can be distributed to many people in a
larger geographical area
Possibly a speaker presentation series whose speakers are all in
line with the findings I came up with
I want to work towards getting my research paper published in a
professional journal
8. What resources will be required for the project?
A lot of reading material
A lot of interviews with differing viewpoints
Examples of youth projects, and the people are willing to speak
with me about it to use sort of as a case study
Still kind of blurry on this part because I am not exactly sure how
I am collecting data yet
Possibly organizations of other youth environmental programs
9. Are there special considerations of the project?

If it goes towards the leadership conference, I will need help from

someone higher up in the HC system, either board of ed or
maybe parks and rec
How to spread materials across the country, maybe like
pamphlets or information booklets, how much money would that
cost?

Part 2
By 3/1 I will have:
Complete a list of possible journals to submit my paper to.
Conference with Sasser about specific revisions to paper to get it
ready to try and submit to publish.
Decide if Conference will truly work and if I want to revive
previous one or start a new one.
Complete a list of HC officials that could be contacted and asked
for help.
2 visuals to be used on SLC board and website
By 3/10:
2 visuals to be used on SLC board and website
Rough outline of SLC board specifics on what information will
be on there
1full revision of paper by mom and I
send to Kris Risley and Heidi Brooks
and send again to advisor
Contact at least 5 possibilities for adult support for leadership
conference
By 3/17:
2 visuals to be used on SLC board and website
have website fully finalized and published
ask 5 people to visit site and ask for feedback
analyze response to adult response determine if more people
need to be contacted, or of those who did respond, who is the
best fit
from whatever response received, draft specific proposals of
different aspects of the conference to appeal to those

considering working on the project, making it easier to get on

board
By 3/24:
2 visuals to be used on SLC board and website
Work on finalizing design for board
Start final construction (easy artsy stuff)
By 4/7:
Finish SLC board construction
Where is the paper now? Revised over spring break and ready for
publication? What is that process?
Meet face to face with professional advisor on conference
Have plans for what they would like from me and what steps and
timeline they are comfortable
Have proposals and possibly grant proposals close to final draft
form
During April and May:
Work with whoever has jumped on board to solidify plans to get
conference in motion (may need timeline for summer). Also, do not
know where data collection is happening at all.
