Benchmark #4: Topic Vocabulary

Due Date: May 10, 2016

Directions: Using your research, determine (find) vocabulary words that people would need to
understand in order to learn about your topic. After you have found these words, follow these
steps:
1) Write the word in the left hand column
2) Find a picture online of your vocabulary word
3) Create a definition for the word, IN YOUR OWN WORDS!

Example:
Phalanx

In battle, Greek soldiers would

create a phalanx by having a
large number of soldiers make a
rectangle. Greek soldiers often
used dory spears and shields in
this formation to stop attackers.

shield to protect themselves.
They had to protect themselves
from the other civilizations in
wars.

Kopis

The Kopis was a sword with a

curved blade. It was used for
cutting animals. They also used
it in wars.

Javelin

It is a spear that is used in

olympics and it was used as a
weapon in the war. In wars they
would use it as a long range
weapon, they would throw it at
their enemies.

Peloponnesian war.

The Peloponnesian war was a

war against Athens and Sparta .
It was from (431-404 BC).
Sparta won the Peloponnesian
war.

Persian Wars.

The Persian wars was series of

conflicts between the
Achaemenid Empire of Persia
and Greek city-states, this
started in 499 BC and lasted
until 449 BC. Greek won the
war.

Sparta

Sparta was a dominate

civilization,they were a city-state
in ancient Greece. They won
many wars such as the
Peloponnesian war. They were
feared by other civilizations.
Sparta was stricter on their
soldiers then Athens soldiers. In
Athens you would have more
freedom, but in Sparta you were
forced to join the military at a

young age.
Athens

Athens was the center

civilization in Greek.They have
been in many wars. They lost to
Sparta in the Peloponnesian
war.

Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece was a

civilization that last in ancient
time, hence the name ancient. It
was a long time ago.

Archer

Archers where spartan soldiers

with bows. They often fought
long rage. There would be
multiple archers that would fire
at once on the same time and
fire at their enemies.

Phalanx

The phalanx was a formation

that Sparta used. They would be
really close to each other in war,
and attack at once.

Civilization

A civilization is a large group of

people that are surviving . They
are advanced at living. They
have built a city, they have a
government a military. They are
surviving.

Peak

Peak means a person or

civilization at its highest and
best point of their life. I chose
this pic because this is a peak
since its very high up.
