Evidence of Standard
Students were immediately updating their interactive notebooks. Students record the Topic, Essential Question and Mastery Objective
for their virtual lab which they will complete independently. The standard is 6.8. Students also have included their Virtual Lab articles
in their notebooks. Ms. Downey provides students with a specific amount of time that students have to complete this task and provides
students with options regarding what they should do if they are unable to complete it within that time frame (you will have the
opportunity to see this again and/or you can share with your elbow partner).
Students work with purpose and there is no confusion as Ms. Downey has clearly articulated the directions and follows up with time
check ins. A timer has been set for the class.
For the Virtual Lab:
EQ: How does the changing amount of daylight hours during the year effect Earth's temperatures?
MO: I will explain the relationship of the changing position of the Earth during the year and the resulting seasons by illustrating Earth's
positions around the sun.

Cornell Notes, this will be their Demo Sheet during guided instruction. The Cornell Notes MS. Downey has prepared offers students the
opportunity to write and illustrate their understanding of the movement of the Earth.
MO: I will distinguish the way the Earth moves when: rotating, completing a revolution, spinning on its axis, and the difference between
day and night by illustrating them.
Topic: Days. years, and seasons.

Ms. Downey's use of the interactive notebook provides students with diverse opportunities to enhance their learning experience. Student
notebooks are wellorganized and include a table of contents, foldables, Cornell Notes, graphic organizers, and multiple opportunities
for student reflection. Text rendering, highlighting, and postits are utilized throughout to bring forth important ideas and themes and

The activities and lessons presented in the interactive notebook provide for different learning styles and are individualized, when
necessary, to meet the individual needs of students. Students have connected a standard to each topic in the table of contents and
have demonstrated their ability to make a connection between the learning intention and reallife applications through their Cornell
Note summaries.
Students work collaboratively to review their notebooks, compare Cornell Notes, and work with Ms. Downey one to one if necessary.
The interactive notebooks display student learning and it is apparent that Ms. Downey has high expectations for her students and has
implemented procedures, routines, and strategies for the students to meet with success.
