Violencehasforcedmanypeopletoleavetheircountries.Thisrefugeecrisisisahugeglobal
issue,whichisgoingtotakeeveryoneworkingtogethertofixit.Swedenhashadanopendoor
policyforyearsandhastakeninmorerefugeespercapitathananyotherEuropeannation.
However,duetotheincreasingnumberofrefugees,Swedenhashadtodrawtheline.

SectionII:Context

Therefugeecrisishastakenovertheworldand,inthatprocess,hasquestionedthemoralsand
policiesofmanypowerfulcountries,Swedenincluded.HavingstartedinMarch2011witha
handfulofstreetprotestors,theSyrianconflictdescendedintoacivilwarduringaperiodknown
astheArabSpring,whichoriginatedinEgypt.Teenagerswerearrestedforwritinggraffitiagainst
PresidentAssad.ProtestsspreadacrossthecountryinmajorSyriancities,andtheSyrian
governmentrespondedwithsnipersandbombs.TheSyrianpeoplearenowforcedtoleavetheir
countryortostayandfight.

SwedenreceivesmanyasylumseekersfromtheMiddleEast,specificallySyria,duetoSwedens
reputationfollowingWorldWarII.DuringthetimeofWWII,Swedenhadtakeninmany
refugeesandwasregardedasoneofthemostwelcomingcountriesintheworldforpolitical
refugees.Swedenistryingtodotheirbesttoliveuptotheirreputation.Peoplewhoseekasylum
fromothercountriesdonotwanttoleavetheirnativecountry,butfeeltheyareforcedto.Bythe
timerefugeesarriveinSweden,theyaretired,hungryandscared.

Swedenbelievesthattheydonetheirroleandtheirjob.DespiteSwedencountrybeingreally
small,theyhavetakeninmorerefugeespercapitathananyotherEuropeancountry.Swedenhas
hadanopendoorpolicyforyears,butduetoanincreaseinthenumberofrefugeesentering
Sweden,therehasbeenanincreaseinviolence,Swedenisatriskofbeingoverpopulatedand
refugeesarespendingmorethantheyaregaining,whichisdamagingSweden'seconomygreatly.
Therehastobeacertainpointwheretheyhavetodrawtheline.Swedenencouragestheviewthat
developednationsshouldhelpresettledisplacedpeople,asylumseekersandrefugees.Itistime
thatSwedentakescareoftheirowncountryandofitsownpeople.Swedenbelievesthatitis
timeforthemtostartclosingtheirbordersbecausehowcanacountrytakecareofothersifthat
countrycannottakecareofitself.Swedenknowsthatmanyrefugeesandmigrantswillbevery
displeasedwiththisdecision,whichisunderstandable,butasSwedenstatedbefore,thereisalot
ofrepairingtobedone.Swedenendorsestheideathatotherbiggerandmorepowerfulnations,
suchastheunitedstatesandeurope,shouldstepuptotheplateandtakemoreactioninhelping

resolvethisrefugeecrisis.Swedenwillgladybeapartoffindingasolutiontothisproblemand
hopesthatWEIRDnationswillhelpaswell.Swedenisdeterminedtohelptheserefugeesnotjust
resettle,butcreateastablelifeoftheirown.

Theinternationalcommunityhasdonenothingbutsweepthisproblemundertherug.Sweden
believesstronglythatiftheinternationalcommunity(theUN)workstogether,andattacktheroot
causeofthisproblem,thiswillhavemorelongtermresultsandcauselessofaproblemforthe
hostingcountries.Theserefugeesarepeopleanditistimeforhumanitytotakeastandfor
humanitybecausethegreatnessinbeinghumanisnotbybeinghuman,butbybeing
humane
.

SectionIII:Proposal

Therefugeecrisishasshakentheworldtoitscore.Challengingcountryvalues,theirmorals,their
policiesandwhatitmeanstobeaglobalcitizeninthetwentyfirstcentury.Thesolutiontothis
hugeproblemisverysimple.

TheUnitedNationsneedtofulfilltheirpromisesands
etoutwhattheyintendedtodo
.All
countries,developedordeveloping,needtoworktogethertosolvethisproblem,WEIRDnations
especially.Theyneedtoattacktherootcauseofthisproblemandsolveoneproblemata
timeworkingtogether.

SwedenbelievesthatthemosteffectivewaytoattacktherootcauseoftherefugeecrisisinSyria
istoworkwiththenationalcommittees,thatincludesworkingwithitsneighbors,toresolvethe
ongoingwarsinSyria.TheUnitedStatesshouldnottakeanymilitaryactionwithoutobtaining
permissionfromtheinternationalcommittee,intheviewthatmilitaryforceisnoteffectiveand
wouldonlyworsentheproblem.InsteadofWEIRDnationstakinginmorerefugees,theyshould
providefinancialsupporttocountrieslikeKenya,whotakeinmorerefugeesthananyother
country,andyethavemanyproblemsoftheirown.

Fortoolonghaveinnocentpeoplebeeninthemidstofcrossfire.Fortoolonghavepowerful
nationsdonenothingbutprotecttheirownneedsinsteadofothers.ItistimeforWEIRDnations
tostepuptotheplateandhelpresolvethiscrisisonceandforall.

Wemustdowhatisrightnotjustforourpeople,butforhumanityandtomakesurethatour
decisionsreflectthis.Itistimeweall,ashumanity,fighttogether,andworktogether.Wemust
NOTmakethesamemistakesthatwehavemade(WWII)andwemustmakesurethatany
militarypowerstakeprecautionandmakesurethattheydonotgetoutofhand.

Swedenhashadanopendoorpolicyforyears.However,duetotheincreasingnumberof
refugees,Swedenhashadtodrawthelineduetothedamageofsweden'seconomyandthe
riseofviolenceinthecountry.

SwedenbelievesthatWEIRDnationsshouldprovidefinancialsupporttocountrieslike
Kenya,whotakeinmorerefugeesthananyothercountry,andyethavemanyproblems
oftheirown.Swedenalsobelievesthatweneedtoattacktherootcauseoftherefugee
crisisinSyriabyworkingwithUnitedNations,whichincludesworkingwithSyria's
neighbors,toresolvetheongoingwarsinSyria.

DefeatISISandotherterroristgroupsthiswillhavetobeaworldwideeffort.
SolveandattackoneproblematatimestartingwithSyria
Helpthemrebuildtheirgovernments
SwedenwillhelpadministrateandpersuadetheUNtotakemattersintotheirown
handsandworkwithsyria'sneighborstoresolvethisissue.

inmorerefugeesthananyothercountry,andyethavemanyproblemsoftheir
