Mr. Takashi Hiroe, @ Japanese solidarity group member volunteered to take pictures for the Tours. Another volunteer from the US Peace Corps, Mr. Tormmy Schultz, gave us Permission to use his Bohol photo collection from his website www.tommyschultz,com and other photos for a would-be postcard project (lodged at the Environmental Legal Assistance Center (ELAC), a member NGO of BANGON) for the designing of marketing collaterals, 2. Promotional Materials Development and Reproduction The designing and production of BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours brochure was undertaken between September to October 2006 through a service contract with K Concepts, a group af design and marketing consultants based in Cebu. An initial run of 1000 copies was teleased in early November of the same year. Unlike with Bohol advertising consulting groups/individuals, the electronic file was free from copyright or of similar intents and thus, reprintablo. ‘A second run of reproduction of the BANGON Eco-Cuttural Tour brochure for 1000 copies was done in February 19, 2007 in time for the PACAP 20" Year Anniversary Celebration in Davao City. The FSS! logo was incorporated in the acknowledgment section of the brochure as a grant supporter of the Tours. The designing and printing of two new designs of BANGON Eco-Cultural Tour tarp ads were also completed during the same time as that of the 2 round of brochure Feproduction. A revised tariff sheet of the current eight (8) tour destinations was also produced. Three (3) destination flyers designed by K Concepts were completed in May, Printing was subject to review in view of the limited budget provided by PACAP. However, two of the designs were converted into tarps, printed and were used in marketing activities uring the Sandugo Festival/CODE-NGO/PEF Social Development Week in Jily ‘These marketing collaterals were produced through fund balances of the PACAP-funded ESCAP Year 3 and Year 4 Projects realigned for such purpose. See sample brochure. 3. Marketing and Promotions Marketing and promotions of BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours started in May 16-20, 2006 uring the World, Fair Trade Day Celebration in SM City Cebu organized by the Peoples’ Fair Trade Shop’ This came right after the projact conceptualization and business Planning were completed in April of the same year Two (2) tarpaulin ads and tariff sheets were produced for the event. Eco-‘our flyers and brochures of various destinations produced by member NGOs (eg. Community Life Tours and Boho! Biodiversity Education and Adventure Tour) were collected and distributed during the event. ae fe fe ee ve Le Le me hUL6e Le Le he Ue eS ee Persisient marketing and promotions went its way in the succeeding months in 2006. The same meteriels were displayed and distributed during various conferences, seminars and workshops which BANGON has participated: + International Conference on Heritage Houses and Vernacular Architecture in Metrocentre Hotel, Tagbilaran City on May 22-24, 2006; + Conference on Local Monitoring and Sustainable Development Management organized by the Civil Society Counterpart Council for Sustainable Development (CSCCSD) on June 20-22, 2006 in Silliman University, Dumaguete City; + Seminar-Workshop on Diaspora Philantrophy organized by the Ayala Foundation, Association of Foundations and the Peace and Equity Foundation in July 2006, Linden Suites in Ortigas Center, Pasig. BANGON hes become confident in selling its ecotourism products after BANGON Eco- Cultural Tours brochures were finally produced in mid October 2006. Distribution and direct selling were being made during the following activities: * Central Visayas Network of NGOs Visioning and Strategic Planning, Bohol Plaza Resort and Restaurant, Dauis, Bohol in late October 2008, + CODE-NGO General Assembly on November 20-31, 2006 in Mendaluyong City. Brochures were also displayed at the CODE-NGO office in Quezon City; + ASEAN Givil Society Conference in Montebello Villa Hotel, Cebu City on Desember 5-7, 2005 + PCNC Learning Events for Region 7 NGOs in Golden Peak Hotel, Cebu City on April 20-21, 2007 involving 40 leaders and managers. BANGON Eco-Cultural Tour brochures were also displayed/distribuied at the Peoples. Fair Trade Shop in Osmena Bivd., Cebu City. Inquiries kept coming in offect. ‘An exhibit was put up and brochures were distributed during the PACAP Community Development Forum in celebration of its 20" Year Anniversary in Davao City, February 21-23, 2007. Direct selling and initial tie-up making were also undertaken. BANGON negotiated with the Mindanao Resource and Training Center, IPHC-DMSF to advertise/display BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours terps and brochures. One hundred (100) copies of brochures, 100 copies of tarif sheets and one tarp ad were cent to PHC. during the PACAP Conference in Davao, February 23, 2007. Inquiries keep coming in as aresult. We have also negotiated the Advocates for Philippine Fair Trade Inc. (APFTI) to display the brochures in their product showroom within their office in Quezon City. Referral arrangements/systems with Palay Travel and Tours, Butuan City, Geografika Travel and Tours, Surigao City and Tour Aklan/USWAG Foundation, Kelibo have been slowly established. One huncred (100) copies of brochures were sent to Tour Aklan during the same PACAP Conference mentioned eartli nother SD copies were sent to Geografika Travel and Tours through the visiting client in April 19, 2007, Tropical Holidays Travel and Tours of Davao City is recently making a business tie-up with BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours because of the IPHC-DMSF referral. The Tours is expecting six (6) guests from Davao City in August through Tropical Holidays Travel and Tours. 4. Networking/Contact Building with Industry Service Providers A citectory of service providers has been developed for easy roference, Through Pegoliations during various visite and cells, contracted rates from a number of hotels avd fescrs, transport operators, Loboc River cruise operators and other service providers have been arranged. This has been observed since January 2007 5. Development of Customized Tour Packages s requested by referral agents ané partner NGOs, a five (5)- day tour package was developed for Palay Travel and Tours of Butuan City. 6. Staff Hiring The grant funds from PACAP to cover the salary and benefit package of the Reservation/Marketing Staff was only reieased on March 1, 2007 after 4 long wait since early 2008. Call for applications started in March but this was extended until April because of the low turn-out of applications. ‘Screening end interviews were undertaken in April, AS of April 27, 2007 BANGON Eco-Cullural Tours was able 10 hire an Entorprise Manager in the person of Mis. Nicole Leano, the former operations manager of Boho) Plaza Resort and Restaurant. Because of her industry knowiedge, skille and social capital, BANGON offered her a negotieted/arranged compensation package slightly higher than the budget item in the PACAP grant for a contract of three monihe renewablo for another six months to one year plus incentives depending on the tour operations/sales volume of the first three to six months, 7. Purchase of Equipment and Tour Van Canvassing of the equipment and vehicle started in February towards eerly March this year However, this was stalled for a while starting in mid-March as most of the BANGON Stafi wete involved in the launching of the Parinetship and Accessing Center of Peace and Equity Foundation (PAC-PEF)-Bohol where BANGON wes contracted to organize the event as part of Its fund-raising schemes, Also, the lack of slaff to aesist the Executive Director, who was concurrently managing the enterprise, and focus on the administrativellogistical requirements of the eco-tour business during the period conliibuted to the delay. However, the tour operation which is now ‘picking-up’ was Never hampered as existing facilities in the office (telephone!fax and computer) are still in good condition. BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours has procured the above-mentioned equipment between June and July. (preferably Nissan Urvan/Escapade models) and to make a separate business plan for the tour van rental operations to ensure its viability and loan amortization, V.2 Are there changes in the project design/scope? No. However, in the next six months, BANGON Eco-Cuttural Tours will include in its ‘eco-cultural tour packages new destinations such as the Anda eco-cultural tour destinations; Albur craft villages and ivelinood demonstrations; Danao Ecotourism ‘Adventure Tour; and the Escapade of Sioatan Hanging Bridge, Sevilla. Most of thee are emerging destinations developed under the PACAP-FOCAS 2 Ecological Cultural Tourism Project which BANGON is the secretariat, V.8 Are there problems encountered in starting up the project? * The lack of grant budget or reserves to undertake regular out-of-town marketing activities to fully saturate identified market seaments (call centers, corporations, schools/universities, and student/youth groups, among others) other than NGOsICSOs. * Most visitors BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours hosted are still mass tourism- oriented. They mostly prefer the Chocolate His, Loboc River Cruise which are ‘ot community-owned or managed. Conscious of its brancing as an ‘eco-cuttural tourism’ enterprise to ensure that its mission is being cartied out, BANGON Eve- Cullural Tours accommodate the above-mentioned visitors with the alm at influencing the same to take on cur eco-cultural tour destination such’ ce Gambuhat River and Vilage Tour, and Pamilacan Island Dolphin Watching on the following day. At the same time, the Tours is conscious at ecucating the Nsitors of the value of environmental protection and management and respect for local cultures, * The complexities and the lucrative nature of the tourism Industry compels the organization to strategically discuss and develop its planned social enterprise at this early. The management already fcreseos some problems to Witin the operations of BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours’ i) negative attacke against the Tours from competitors. Hence acquiring at least a business name from DTI and Mayor's Business Fermit (on the maximum a BIR Registration) at this early is imperative and ji) tensions between member NGOs and BANGON Secretariat because of the lucrative nature of the business since it genera int net income. A policy formulation and thorough discussion of the nature of the social enterprise through the Board and the General Assembly is crfical " The lack of reserves resulted in the failure to tap the CVED-PBSP Ecotourism Marketing Volunteer as proposed in the business plan. The hiring of a very competent person who used to come from the industry wes timely. We were able ‘o get her commitment to stay on with BANGON Eco. Cultural Tours for atleast a year. The staff wilingly committed to stay on for ong as long as her tenure wil be secured. BANGON will also continue to tap volunteers from the AYAD, US Peace Corps or VIDA as part of its PACAP. assisted FOCAS 2- Enhancing Ecologica-Cultural Tourism Project in Central and Eastern Bohol. V4 Are there issues/concerns requiring action/intorvention from FSSI? * Can we realign and use from the grant funds for marketing expenses and —Salaty augmentation once the PACAP funds is already used up and income is insufficient yet to cover overhead? * How can FSS! assist BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours in marketing and promotions? \V.5 What are the proponent’s next steps? + Within Augus!- December 2007: © Implement capacity building ectivities under the PACAP-funded ESCAP 5 Project for BANGON Eco-Cultural Tours ,-@ Series of Coordination Meetings with PO Hosts/Assisting NGOs to discuss arrangements, initial policies and guidelines for conduct, standards and consistency ; “Ecotourism Marketing Training-Workshop for BANGON and ‘Selected Destinations + Eco-Cultural Tour Agency Operations Management Training + Formulation Workshop on Eco-Cuttural Tourism Policies, Guidelines and Codes of Conduct —— 4 o Website Construction with Ematt Marketing Service ‘© Reprinting of brochures and flyers (subject to review) * Participation in Intemational Travel Mart in Cebu International Convention Center (CICC}, September 5-7, 2007 and Philippine Travel Mart in SM Megamall, Ortigas, Pasig City September 7-9, 2007 through BANGON FOCAS 2 Secreiarial. = Participation in Social Development Week, CODE-NGO, Glorietta Mall, November 2007. + Email Marketing to CSOs/NGOs organizational accounts and E-groups, local and international; Travel and Tour agencies; Friends, Visitors and Relatives; Corporate groups; Filipino-American/Canadians philanthropic groups + Familiarization Tour in Anda and Albur destinations, Makapiko River Adventure, and Danao Ecotourism Adventure Prepared by: Reviewed by: NICOLE M.
