Sarah tells Abraham to eject "this slave girl with her son"

Abraham listens to Sarah and God tells him not to worry about it

Abraham sends Hagar away

She and Ishmael wander through the wilderness of Beersheba

God's messenger comes to tell Hagar that "Ishmael's descendants will be a great nation"

God gives them water

Important treaties were made Abraham and Abimelech

God told him to go to Moriah and oer Isaac as a burnt oering

Burnt oering= a gift to God

Due to his previous promises Isaac is very important

After three days he arrives at the place

Isaac sees the wood and the fire and asks where the sheep is

Abraham says "God will provide the lamb for a burnt oering, my son" (22:8 NRSV)

Isaac is bound to the altar that Abraham made by Abraham

Isaac survives 9 out of the 10 plagues

Isaac is on the altar when Abraham grabs the knife to kill Isaac

The deity's messenger tells Abraham that he doesn't have to kill Isaac

God believed that Abraham was loyal so he did not have to sacrifice Isaac

Abraham sacrifices a ram instead of his son.

The messenger confirms the covenant

Genesis 25

Isaac marries Rebekah at the age of 40

He prays that Rebekah gets pregnant

Rebekah becomes pregnant with two babies

The first twin born is Esau

Esau is red and very hairy

The second twin is named Jacob

Jacob is plain, kinda average looking

Isaac loves Esau

Esau is a great hunter who provides

But Rebekah loves Jacob

Jacob cooks stew

Esau comes in from hunting

He is starving, and is rude when he asks for "red stu" (25:30 NRSV)

He confronts Laban about this and Laban points out that it's not the regional custom to marry
o a younger sibling when the older is available

Laban says that Jacob can marry Leah before the 7 years of work are finished

Jacob takes the deal

This is when Israel sends Joseph out to meet with his brothers and report back to him

Joseph's brothers see him coming and plot to kill him

One plan is that they kill Joseph, then throw him into a pit and say some wild animals killed him

The other plan is to throw Joseph into a pit, but don't kill him

When Joseph arrives, his brothers take his coat and throw him in the pit

The brothers are eating and see a group of Ishmaelite businessmen traveling from Gilead to
Egypt

Judah, one of Joseph's older brothers, suggests selling Joseph to the Ishmaelites so that

technically they are not guilty of murder and they can make some money

The brothers sell Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver

The brothers take Joseph's robe, kill a goat, dip the robe in the blood, and bring it to their
father to fake his death

The businessmen who bought Joseph take him to Egypt

The Pharaoh decides to make the Israelites do forced labor for Egypt in service to their new
civilization

The Israelites population keeps on growing

Pharaoh asks two Hebrews (Puah and Shiphrah) to kill all the Israelite male babies so they stay
small

The midwives lie to Pharaoh about killing the babies

They are rewarded by God for saving lives

The Pharaoh finds out

He then orders all Egyptians to kill newborn Israelite boys

She hides him for three years

She then hides him in the bushes along the Nile and asks Miriam to watch over him

She says yes

The Pharaoh's daughter names the boy Moses

Exodus 3

Moses is guarding his father-in-law's flock of sheep

He wanders with them "beyond the wilderness" to Horeb

Horeb is the mountain of God

An angel of God appears to him in the form of a bush that's on fire but doesn't burn

God tells Moses that he's back to help the Israelites out of Egypt

Moses is told that he has to lead them

Moses wonders why he was chosen for the job and asks God

God tells him not to worry

God reveals his name to Moses "the God of your ancestors."

Exodus 7

God comes to Moses and Aaron

He says to Moses, "I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your
prophet" (7:1)

Moses is not becoming a god but he is gaining power

God again promises to make Pharaoh stubborn so that the Egyptians can witness God's
power

Aaron uses his powers to turn stas into snakes

The Egyptian priests turn all of their stas into snakes, as well

But Aaron's snake eats all the others

With permission from God, Moses and Aaron use their power to turn the Nile's waters into
blood

The fish all died and the Egyptians had to dig wells for water

Again, Pharaoh's priests replicate the miracle, and so Pharaoh is unimpressed by God's power

Exodus 8

Moses said if they don't get released he will bring a plague of frogs

Pharaoh prayed they would go away, and once they were, his heart headend once again

All the dust become gnats Because of Moses, God, and Aaron

finger of God, but Pharaoh would not listen

Then swarms of flies came

He again prayed in return for them getting to sacrifice, but once the flies were gone, he said no
again

Exodus 9

Egyptians but he will make sure not to hit the Israelites live stock

He tossed dust I front of pharaoh and all Egyptians had awful boils, but god hardened his heart
and he was very stubborn once again

God has spared their lives thus far, so he will now bring on a terrible hail, and if they don't get
shelter all will surely die

God told Moses to tell Pharaoh this but he didn't change

Pharaoh said he will them them go no problem, but as soon as the storm was gone he went
back to his stubborn ways

Exodus 10

Moses told next of a storm of locusts' that would consume the town

The men were not allowed to leave even though Pharaoh's ocials started to think that they
should

The locusts came and ate all the green things not destroyed by the hail and the land was left
bare

Pharaoh would not let them go and God hardened

God brought a darkness on the town, let all the people go, but not the livestock, and Pharaoh
said he never wanted to see Moses again, and if he did he threatened to kill him

Moses vowed never to return

Exodus 11

God planned to kill first born sons all across Egyptians

Pharaoh would not listen because he hardened his heart God told Moses

frames so when he come to slay the firstborn they will be spared

Also told them about specific way they have to eat during the time, Lords Passover it was

called

God told them Passover would be a new tradition

The tradition now represents what God did for them by passing over their houses when he
slashed the Egyptians

Pharaoh was finally going to let them go

This is a powerful message about power, and what taking things away does to a person

Finally they left Egypt after much struggle

Keep hope and all will end up okay

God gave very strict rules, most involving circumcision

Exodus 13:17-20

God led the people out of Egypt on safer route because he thought if they came upon war they
would flee back

Human nature tells us to run when faced with hardship

As requested Moses took Joseph's bones

Safe route is the road most traveled

Exodus 14

Told Moses to make his people move in a way to make pharaoh think they are lost, and God
would harden his heart, and gain glory with pharaoh, and show he is the lord

Pharaoh an changes his mind and was mad he let the serviced of the Israelites go

Moses's people were mad and thought he brought them to the desert to die

They said they would rather serve the Egyptians

God told Moses to hold up his sta and the sea will divide so they can continue through water
on dry land

God said he would gain glory through hardening the Egyptians hearts and making them go I'm
after Moses's people

The waters parted and they moved forward

realizing God was fighting against them, the Egyptians said they wanted to abort after God
jammed the chariots

God had Moses put his sta up again to flood the sea once more, killing all the Egyptians on
the mission

The Israelites now feared God, and his servant Moses

Judges 14

Samson saw a lion approaching and slayed it with his bare hands

This was a gift from God

They took honey from cars and fed it to families with out telling them

His wife told her people, but did not reward the, for they cheated

Lesson: cheating does not end in good fortune

In turn they burned his ex wife and his father

He vowed revenge, and Judah's men went to help the Palestines, but his strength broke the
ropes they used to tie him up

Killed all men with donkey jawbone

God made water for him

Lesson: revenge is an ongoing circle made for death so it is not worth it

Judges 16

Samson of Gaza saw Propitiate and went to sleep with her

People found out he was in town and waited for him to appear so they could kill him

He was amazingly strong

He fell in love with a woman, Delilah, and people payed her to ask the secret of his strength

He lied to her three times, and when he was close to death, he told her

His strength came from his hair

She betrayed him and shaved his head, making him loose all strength

Philistinism, gouged out his eyes and captured him

His hair grew back, and while he was playing a fool in front of the plaid times, he called upon
his strength, pulling down the pillars, killing himself and many more

Mockery will beat someone

Being rude to someone will create a feeling so powerful it can take down anything

Samuel 17

Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together in the valley of Elah where they planned for
the battle against the Philistines

The Philistines and Israel were on opposite sides of the mountain with a valley in between

The champion of the camp of Philistine was Goliath of Gath

will serve the Philistines

And David told the Philistine that he would give him the flesh of the fowls and the beasts of the
air

him there

A big wind was sent out to see to break the boat by the Lord

sea and the dry land. (Jonah 1:9)

The sea was too rough for the men to bring the ship to shore

So they threw Jonah into the sea, which calmed it

Then the men oered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows to him

Then the Lord had a great fish swallow Jonah, and he was in his stomach for three days and
nights

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. "

You should not kill, those who kill because of judgement

If the right eye oends someone, pluck it out

If the right arm oends someone, cut it o

Take out anything that causes problems

Love your enemies

Bless the people that curse you

Be good to the people that hate you

Pray for the people that use you

Don't sin just because other people do you wrong

Matthew 6

The language that is used in this story is very dierent compared to common literature

Alms are money food or other donations given to the poor or needy

It is talking about giving to charity and reasons why you should

It also says that you must be humble about your good doings and you will be rewarded

Pray in secret and you will be rewarded openly

God knows the things that you need before you asked for them

It then says the Our Father prayer

You must forgive the people who have done you wrong and God will forgive your wrongdoings

But if you don't forgive you won't be forgiven

Don't worry about treasure on earth but about treasure in heaven

If your eye is impure so is your entire body but if you're eye is good so is your body

You can't serve more than two masters

Don't ask where you will eat or drink or be given clothes

Look for the kingdom of God and you shall get all these things

Matthew 7

Don't judge or you will be judged

Don't give your best to bad people

You will always be answered

If you're bad to give good gifts to your children

Do the things that you wish to receive in return

The path to destruction is easier to take than the route to a holy life

Watch out for people who will deceive you

A good person can only bring goodness with them

A bad person can only bring evil

A faithful person will receive a good home built on rock

An unfaithful person with get a home that is blow down

A not smart person will build their house on sand

Matthew 10

Gave his disciples power against bad spirits, heal the sick, and cure diseases

They were told to preach to Israel speaking of heaven

He told them not to carry anything of value with them

Go by the rules of the city that you enter

He is basically telling them to spread the word of God

"I send you forth as a sheep in the midst of wolves: ye therefore wise as serpents, and
harmless as doves"- symbol

The Spirit of God will speak in you so don't worry about what you have to say

You will be hated by all men in Jesus's name but you must persevere because in the end you
will be rewarded

Runaway when they want to persecute you

Don't fear the things that will kill you physically but the things that will tell your soul and bound
you to hell

You have more value than sparrows?

The people who denied Jesus will also deny God

Jesus didn't come to some peace on earth

The people who value their family more than god are not worthy

You'll be rewarded for the sacrifices that you make for God

They put a crown of thorns on Jesus's head and mocked him

They spit on him and beat him with a reed

They put him back in his previous clothes and let him away to crucify him

A man named Simon was forced to carry his cross
