Unrequited Love
Hello and welcome to the G Nelie Show with your boys Ryan, Colby, Louka, and Garrett. On
the last show, we asked our viewers what they wanted us to discuss next, and they said to talk
about a type of love in Romeo and Juliet. Today we will speak about unrequited love. This is
when you have feelings towards someone, but they do not feel the same way towards you. One
of the worlds most famous love stories actually demonstrates examples of unrequited love. Now
we will have Ryan talk about how unrequited love affectes the story Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet has many instances of unrequited love. Examples occur at different
times during the play between the different characters. At the beginning of the story, Romeo,
who is a family member of the Montagues, falls in love with a nun named Rosaline. Romeo
never shares his feelings with Rosaline; however, in his heart, he knows that she does not have
similar emotions towards him because nuns cant marry. This unrequited love causes Romeo to
experience deep sadness and depression.
Shakespeare also includes an example of unrequited love between Juliet and Paris. The
Capulets are trying to force their daughter, Juliet, to marry Paris. We discover that Paris, who
likes Juliet, is happy with this arrangement. Juliet, unfortunately, has second thoughts and does
not like this plan nor does she have similar feelings towards Paris. Eventually, this situation leads
to a fight within the Capulet family. Once again, we see another example of unrequited love in
the play Romeo and Juliet.

Unrequited love isn't always romantic such as between Romeo and Tybalt. This is a very unique
relationship because Romeo truly likes Tybalt and does not want to fight him. This is due to
Romeo being secretly related to Tybalt through his new marriage with Juliet. Romeo instead
wants to have a good relationship with Juliets cousin. However, despite Romeos change of
heart, Tybalt hates Romeo because he is a Montague. While Tybalt hates Romeo and has feelings
of anger, Romeo expresses his feelings to his new relative and tells Tybalt that he love[s] [him]
better than [he] canst devise (III.i, 70). Although, as we know, the feeling is not mutual.
Unrequited love is important in Romeo and Juliet because although it is not what the story is
known for, it is very prominent.
Modern society proves that unrequited love is the harshest. Unrequited love does not only
connect to Romeo and Juliet it is a very common love in the modern day. My friend Josh was
dating a girl named Amber. Josh loved Amber very much but got involved in alcohol and drugs.
This affected his personality and his priorities. Amber no longer loved Josh because of the way
that he was acting. Josh kept asking her back out, but Amber was no longer loved Josh because
of his behavior. Josh was experiencing unrequited love and was heart broken. We took a class
survey about the effects of unrequited love and the majority of the people used words like
depressed, sad, heartbroken, and mad. We also asked the class if different sexes react differently
and they responded by saying that girls are more emotional and make it a bigger deal than it
actually is. They also said that guys hide their emotions when they get rejected, which makes
them hurt much more. This proves that unrequited love is very real, and affects many everyday
people.
In conclusion, unrequited love is the most cruel type of love because people work so hard for
someones affection only to get there heart broken.. Unrequited love is one of the most prominent

loves in Romeo and Juliet. Many of the characters in the play are connected to some form of
unrequited love. Romeo and Rosaline first experience this form of love in its most classic state.
Then Romeo and Tybalt encounter it in a non-romantic form. Lastly Juliet and Paris experience
this love and show how it can lead to the destruction of families and ultimately your death. It is
also a common occurrence in modern life such as when famous artist Drake was romantically
interested in another singer Nicki Minaj, however she only saw him as a friend. This proves that
unrequited love is the cruelest form of love both in Romeo and Juliet and in modern life. That's
all the time we have today thanks for tuning into the G Nelie show.
