Ask students to get into groups of 5-6 and given a large piece
of paper and a specific coloured marker
Each group will be assigned a term:
1. Nation
2. State
3. Nation-state

In their groups, students will create a SEE-I (State, Elaborate,
Exemplify, Illustrate)
Students will have time to work together on defining and
elaborating on their term.
Subsequently, students will do a gallery walk with their groups
to look at the other terms to gain a firm understanding
Once groups have had a chance to see/edit all the other terms
they will return to their own and a spokes person from each
group will briefly outline the findings from their posters with
the class
Slides go over term distinctions if any were still unclear

ranking and rationale
Have students discuss with 3 people near them about how
they did their ranking and why their rankings might be
diferent from one anothers.
