Activity/Activities

Students will access poll everywhere through D2L or

the power point, to submit their answers for
contemporary international issues which will the
generate a word cloud
Using the word cloud I will generate/add to Google doc,
which has already been created. Students will then all
access the Google doc using the link provided on D2L
as well as in the Power point.
Once they have accessed the doc, students will
individually pick one of the contemporary issues on the
list (up to a maximum of 3 students per issue). Using
Canada as their reference country, they will have
about a half hour to research their issue to identify the
nature of Canadas involvement, as well as reasons for
Canadas involvement or non-involvement.
They will add their findings to the Google Form so that
the rest of their class can see their findings.
Discuss reasons for international pursuits identified in
the Google Doc

Exploration of not so obvious/hidden reasons for international

pursuits
Discuss reasons that may not have already become
clear
As a class, we will discuss and analyze not so obvious
reasons for involvement using (1) Canadians providing
medical aid and relief for AIDS victims in Africa, (2)
Canadian involvement in the Gulf War, and (3)
Canadian disaster aid eforts
These case studies will lead to a discussion about
hidden motivations for international eforts (ex.
Operation Iraqi freedom)
