2014 - 2016

E.B. Aycock Middle School serves more than 700 students in grades 6-8 with a vision of having
students show their pride by being prepared for life, respectful to others, independent thinkers,
disciplined students, and effective communicators. The Pitt County School System believe that
all students are unique in their abilities to learn and is committed to their continuous academic
progress. Each middle school provides the opportunity for academically and intellectually gifted
students to develop their potential through rigorous curriculum and authentic experiences.
During my two years as an AIG instructor I have:

Participated in the development of cross-curricular units based on higher order thinking


skills, discovery, and problem solving.
Maintained data folders on the over 100 students in my program.
Coached several academic competition teams including Mock Trial, Odyssey of the
Mind, The Quill, Twelve, and Robotics.
Sponsored a three day field trip to Washington D.C. for 31 students.

As a graduate assistant to Dr. Stacy Weiss in the Special Education department, my


responsibilities included research, writing reviews, copy editing, scoring student samples, data
entry, updating online courses, and fact checking. During my two years as a graduate assistant I
also had the pleasure of working with several other teachers in the College of Education on a
semester to semester basis. In that capacity I worked on research and grant projects, organized
academic records, and stood in as a class facilitator.

East Ends administrators and staff are committed to the development of students positive

students. During my five years as an instructor there I have:
Created and taught interactive lessons in all content areas using varied instructional
strategies such as technology, group work, and independent exploration.
Taught under the Reading First initiative for three years and taught Language Arts only
for two years.
Participated in Partners in Math training and delivered multiple Partners in Math staff
development sessions to the countys second and third grade teachers.
Designed and implemented a classroom management plan based on the Responsive
Classroom model which focuses on creating a sense of classroom community where all
students feel safe expressing their thoughts and ideas.

Sylvan offers custom-tailored tutoring services to help students meet their academic goals and
needs.
Conducted skills assessments to pinpoint where students should begin the program.
Delivered custom lessons to small groups of students and monitored progress during each

Supervised the daily operations of the program at East End Elementary including taking
attendance, making sure teachers and students had all necessary materials, and filling in
where needed.

this internship I accomplished the following:

consequences as it related to the individual child and the class as a whole.
Completed Running Records to obtain assessment of students reading comprehension,
phonemic awareness, and language acquisition skills.
Led morning meeting time that consisted of calendar math activities and shared reading
and writing, as well as conducted small group instruction in reading to provide additional
practice in fluency and comprehension.
