It has been very disappointing this year as the lack of expectations, follow through, and professionalism from

5/16/2016 6:53 PM

administration is not apparent. When Keith was vp he blamed all of the short comings on the principal, and now he
has no problem throwing the superintendent under the bus. He has made it clear that you do not support him and he
therefore cannot back us. Excuses... I feel like we have went through the motions and address and make up rules as
we go. This has been a very poor administration team. If things were so bad before, I am surprised that are admin has
not already been replaced to be honest. Rude and snarky emails are frequently sent out. He is unapproachable unless
he is your buddy. I have literally watched him run from me as I try to speak to him. There have been no observations
done on existing and new staff (including first time teachers). Discipline is not followed through, and if it is we never
know. Administration do not respond to emails in a timely matter... So I wonder, what are they doing if they are not
doing these things? How has every other administration team been successful in these areas, but yet they don't have
time and need a dean. I know the selected dean will be just another pal to add to the administration.
2

Keith is a great principal and we are so lucky to have him. He has been a part of this school for a long time and he

5/16/2016 4:55 PM

should have been given the principal position 3 years ago. The mood of the teachers is definitely a lot happier than in
years past. Elisa is doing well too! She is getting the hang of many things and knows that adjustments need to be done
along the way. Nothing is perfect. I think teachers need to cut her a break every once in awhile. She is another person
that should have been given the opportunity a long time ago to be AP. One concern is why nothing has been done
about the guidance counselor at OMS. Although things have calmed down with her and her favorites she is still not
performing her job appropriately. There needs to be a clear definition of her title is she considered administration or
is she teaching staff? There is no MTSS structure at our school there are tons of kids that come over from the
elementary schools that are in MTSS and they are never followed through with once they get to the middle school.
She has screwed up on schedules but considers herself the scheduling expert. She has ignored students that need
counseling, especially those that have threatened to kill themselves or whose parents abuse them. She spends too
much time in the cafeteria with lunch duty, when she could be counseling students instead of complaining she doesnt
have time to do all the tasks she is required to do. To teachers, it looks as though she is allowed to do as she pleases
and is never reprimanded for it.

I think Keith would be a more effective leader if he was given leadership training or mentoring. He is personable,

5/16/2016 8:33 AM

friendly and very calm in stressful situations but I think he and the staff/faculty needs to learn that he is the boss and
what he says, goes. I think many people take advantage of him because they are friendly with him and they cannot
separate professional relationships and personal relationships.
5

The principal appears to shy away from conflict and afraid to confront staff members directly. When an issue needs to

5/14/2016 12:00 PM

be addressed he sends out a general, all staff email instead of speaking directly to the person. Administration at OMS
speaks negatively about other staff members, students and parents on a regular basis. Inapproproate and
unprofessional language is used regularly. The principals are too passive about behavior issues. There is a clear
culture of favoritism and lack of consistency when it comes to addressing issues with both staff and students.
6

This one does not deserve even one star. Hired without staff input.......not good.

5/13/2016 3:19 PM

Very green but trying. He needs to listen more and take things a bit more seriously. OTherwise big heart and I believe

5/12/2016 1:56 PM

will grow into the position. The AP.....not so much!

8

I believe that my principal has done an amazing job working with us this school year. I know that at times his direct

5/12/2016 10:35 AM

manner has been taken by some staff as uncaring but that is individuals. When I've needed support I have felt
supported and understood by administration and even if the solution wasn't what I thought it should be an explanation
or guidance I needed to move forward with their decision was provided to help me be successful with the situation.
9

As a veteran teacher, I have never felt more alone with administrative support. Even though he has an "open door

5/12/2016 9:56 AM

policy," I feel as though he isn't receptive towards me. If I need anything, I go to our assistant principal where she is
very receptive. On another note, I don't believe that our school has an efficient discipline plan or "Behavioral Plan" in
effect to follow through with students behavior. This year has been incredibly rough with disrespect and immoral
behaviors. Students were not disciplined due to us not having an effective behavior plan. Therefore, students took
advantage.
10

This is only Keith's first year and I believe he is settling into the job. There are areas that need improvement -

5/11/2016 5:01 PM

communication and involving people outside the "chosen few" and outside the office in decision making or other
leadership roles - are at the top of my list. Hopefully this will come with time.
11

I would like to see more consistency in regards to helping new teachers feel confident in their role. There have been
times when parents have been disrespectful to the teacher and there was little to know backing or guidance from
administration on how to respond or handle the situation.

5/11/2016 1:03 PM

12

You should have an N/A column.. that isn't fair to Mr. Graham as I have no idea on some of these. Also, many of these

5/11/2016 12:34 PM

are NOT because of Mr. Graham but because of the Admin team at OMS as a whole. The student discipline policy is
horrible and non-existent. The students run the school and there is NO accountability. In fact, the students know this
and so they are pushing the limits more and more each day. We have lost good students for no good reason AND it
was shrugged off. Those students were replace by jerks on the waiting list. We NEED a plan to promote our school
and weed out the behavioral problems. We CANNOT coast on the success of OES or CME. If I had a middle school
aged child, I would NOT bring them here. How sad is that? I know of students willingly leaving to go to district schools,
this is unacceptable. We have extra-curricular events that no-one shows up to as it is not valued, Ms. Collins always
states that she'll be there but has an excuse ready the next day as to why she was not... isn't that part of being an
Administrator.. being there for the students and staff. We have admin staff "help" with duties but actually just make it
worse by standing there and chatting. Mr. Graham, needs to realize that just having a waiting list does not equal
success. There is a LOT of work to do before OMS goes to dogs.
13

I think Keith is good for our school because he is a caring individual, but at times I think the fact that he is a nice guy

5/11/2016 11:58 AM

keeps him from holding accountable those staff members who should be held accountable. I think training for staff is
necessary, but training that is meaningful to the particular subject matter the teacher is responsible for teaching. Not
sure if this is really a school problem or more of a system-wide problem due to a lack of money. On that note, I feel
staff that has been with the school /system for some time and are considered valuable to the system, should be
compensated properly and rewarded with adequate raises not just blanket raises across the board. How can we
inspire staff to strive to do better when the staff member who is a slacker receives the same raise as the one who is
always working hard for the good of the school and the system?
14

Most teachers are on an island. Collaboration and consistency among different classes/teachers is nearly non

5/11/2016 11:14 AM

existent.
15

What professional development? Students have a say in discipline but they are the only ones. Discipline decisions

5/11/2016 9:11 AM

depend on whether or not the student is friends with administration/guidance. When students push limits, we give in
instead of teaching students personal responsibility and respect. Administration doesn't hold leader meetings or staff
meetings. (we had 3 all year and one for testing) Keith does support teachers where parent complaints are made. I feel
like I do my job well, but that is because I am educated and a professional, it is no thanks to administration.
Administration should not be walking around on their phones all the time. Literally all the time, checking email or
whatnot. Of all staff, teachers are invested the most in our students. When I send a student to ISS or something else
(Not sure what to call this as we don't have "referrals" or anything to document discipline on except a link that who
knows what happens to it), I want to know what the outcome is. I want to know this so that I can use it to support the
student in the future (talk about consequences) and so that I know something was done and I am taken seriously and
supported) Students run our school and they know it. They are out of control... Keith speaks in passive
comments....."everyone needs to do this....but if you do that its ok.??? All teachers in a subject area should use the
same tests and grading criteria. There has to be consistency in grading that follow best practices. We want a black and
white direction as to what we are supposed to do for grades. This goes for the FSA packets as well. Teachers here
often choose what rules they will follow and which they wont follow concerning these things. It is a serious free for all
here with the kids and about 6 teachers. When I email administration I want a response. One that is not sarcastic and
snarky. Have you seen the emails that go out here? I mean really, talk about unprofessional. I am surprised we
haven't had HR complaints filed! I know this is about Keith and I sound like a hater but I am really not. However, also
why do we pay to have 3 secretaries in the office when the only one that works is Elena>>>She is amazing. The other
secretaries shop on Amazon and play on their phones. Some office staff is rude and that includes part of
administration up there also. You can't always be rude to parents and students and think that is ok. If you don't like
your job quit, but it is embarrassing that families don't feel welcomed when they walk in here. Personal conversations
between EVERYONE in the office happen up front, regardless of who is in there. it is a JOKE. I have heard more
about students, staff and parents up there then I should know. Sometimes I feel like it is a big high school hang out up
there.
16

I would like to see more consistency in discipline and school rules (ex school uniform, gum, cell phones.)

5/11/2016 9:11 AM

17

Much damage has been done to this school because of the revolving door of leaders. Teacher morale is very low. The

5/10/2016 11:20 PM

AP is not suited to be a leader. She gossips about teachers, lacks professional communications skills, tends to be
nasty, and creates lower morale at the school. The probable new dean does not have the strengths needed in a dean.
She is a friend of the guidance counselor who brought damaging drama to the school this year. Teachers are fed up
with the probability of more drama to come with the new dean's propensity to be O'Reilly's "Yes Man." Graham is
sarcastic and unconcerned about the welfare of the teachers. His communication skills are immature and they provoke
resentment among teachers. The teachers need a strong, professional leader who is respectful and willing to enforce
discipline among students. Students now know Graham isn't concerned about accountability among students. That
sabotages teachers everyday.
18

Keith has a laid back, hands-off style that I appreciate. It says to me that he trusts us as teachers to do our jobs.
However one downfall is not knowing if there is an issue of any kind.

5/10/2016 7:58 PM

19

- Behavioral expectations for students (including dress code) seemed to change often throughout the school year. It

5/10/2016 4:49 PM

seemed that throughout the year, the administrative team was asking teachers to do more and more of what I would
consider their job in working with student behavior in the school. I was unclear on what was required of students and I
did not feel like administration was working toward correcting student behavior. We know that there is a large group of
students in the school who like to "push buttons" and no progress seemed to be made from the start of the school
year on correcting this misbehavior. - I was never observed in my classroom this year. I received no feedback from
either my principal or AP on my teaching and where I could improve my practice. We were told at a staff meeting that
the administrative team "did not have time" to conduct observations. I feel that this hurt my development in my
teaching this year. - I feel there is no clear vision for the future of the school in terms of programming and curriculum.
There were conversations at the start of the year about individualized student learning that did not pan out. Then we
had one meeting with the high school to begin vertical alignment that did not pan out. Without a clear focus, it is going
to be difficult moving forward. - Related to this, student work ethic seems to be very weak. This could be due to a lack
of challenging curriculum in the school. Often throughout the day, I would see groups of students leaving classrooms
and congregating in the restrooms. I would see teachers sitting at their desk while students did busy work (or nothing
at all). I would see students unsupervised in the hallway doing make up work or taking a test. Without a presence of
administration in the hallways during the school day, students did not feel like they had to worry about consequences.
- I once saw the assistant principal selling Essential Oils out of her office. She stopped what she was doing to bring a
parent into her office and sell her products during the school day. Also, during lunch duty or school assemblies, she is
usually seen on her phone. - All of this combined (and other small things) have made for a very challenging year. It has
been extremely difficult for me, since Spring Break, to wake up in the morning and come in to school. I have never
experienced this before and it is extremely upsetting for someone who has devoted a career to education to dread
going in to work.
20

It would be nice to see either Keith or Elisa in our classrooms more, I really think hanging out in the cafeteria is not

5/10/2016 4:35 PM

really an effective use of their time. I think the idea of a dean would be a great idea. Keith and Elisa need to have
support from all the teachers, not be blocked everytime they try something by the lazy teachers. The students have a
crazy sense of entitlement and often are rude to subs and each other.
21

This year my principal has shown excellent leadership and vision -- what a tremendously exciting and challenging year

5/10/2016 3:53 PM

we have had! However, in the future, I would like to see him supported and represented with a more professionally
developed administrative and front office staff.
22

Million percent better than last principal Not too much time visiting classes because they are so busy in the office

5/10/2016 3:52 PM

dealing with crazy stuff

23

In regards to the Assistant Principal, Elisa Collins, I must say that I am happy with her work here. The only comment I

5/10/2016 3:52 PM

would make is this: be heavier on consequences with students who are constantly in trouble. This is not a private
school and we do not seek out only the elite students; however, the waiting list is long for students to get in here.
There are a handful of students who should have been out of the building before Christmas. By strongly disciplining a
handful of students early, I think, even in my lack of behavior research, the rest of the students would stop and take
notice. Mrs. Elisa Collins does an excellent job of building rapport with students and is fantastic when it comes to public
relations and making the staff feel welcomed and supported. She and Mr. Keith Graham are excellent role models in
the school and I'm proud to work under them.
24

25

Could not ask for a better place

There needs to be a firm dress code and discipline policy here at OMS. We need to enforce that the students must
abide by the dress code policy - or we should get rid of it. Mrs. Collins needs to enforce this policy. She did not do a
very good job enforcing dress code and she changed it in the middle of the year. She decided that students could
wear sweatshirts with a dollar size logo on them and expected us - teachers - to measure each logo with a REAL
DOLLAR BILL. That is just ridiculous. We don't have time for that. Then, she decided that if someone was wearing a
sweatshirt of a certain "team name and logo" here in Cape Coral, but it had nothing to do with our school - she said it
was "ok and that the student could wear it." This is unacceptable - yet - the teachers get scolded when students go all
day out of dress code. The teachers get told one day that a certain dress code is acceptable - and then the next day she changes it. So, teachers basically gave up on it this year because administration was so inconsistent with this
policy. Also, the discipline policy here at OMS for students needs to be enforced. Teachers need to be informed on the
outcome of every discipline issue that was severe enough to get sent to the front office. We also need to stand firm in
kicking kids out of school on their 3rd offense. Students that are constantly fighting in the bathrooms, verbally
harassing other students, starting fight clubs, etc........the 3rd time they get in trouble for these kinds of problems - they
should be kicked out - sent to ALC or have to move to a different school. I feel like students are constantly getting "off
the hook" here and discipline issues are not taken as seriously as they should be and often times, they are just
dismissed. I do not agree with this at all. We also need to feel more support from administration! We SHOULD NOT
have students coming back to us and telling us that Mr. Graham/Mrs. Collins said that the reason (we/teachers) sent
them to the office was a stupid reason - and that they didn't agree that the student should be in trouble.....etc. That has
got to stop. We need to feel supported. The discipline policy is definitely an issue here at OMS. Also, CELLPHONES
are a serious problem too! They need to be shut off and put away. So many kids are sexting and texting, they are
harassing and bullying each other on social media, texting each other on when to meet in the bathroom so they can
