Becoming and Audio Engineer
My entire life I had always pictured myself as a musician; performing and travelling seemed ideal
to me especially since they went hand in hand. However, due to the things I cant change, a position as a
travelling musician can be quite difficult to come by and acquire.
Has this stopped and added any sort of halt in my aspiration? Not even close. Though, as
passionate and dedicated as I am to fulfilling my dream of being a travelling musician, the sad truth is that
working hard doesnt always payoff with the desired outcome. Yes, it is likely that I wont be the
international star Ive always dreamed of being, but that doesnt mean I cant be a star at all.
When I was younger being in the music industry seemed to have very narrow options, basically
that either you were a singer or you were nothing, however: in the last few years the narrowness of
opportunities in the world of music didnt seem so narrow anymore. Though, while there are so many
options: talent scout, manager, business, advertising, instrumentalist etc. Ive always known that I was
meant to make music. I started writing songs at the age of nine, six year later I still do along with playing
a multitude of instruments and having kept up with my true love of singing, I knew I was meant to make
the music not just promote it. I realized that if I wasnt the one performing and singing the songs, I
wanted to contribute somehow to the creation process, it was then that I and come to the conclusion that I
wanted to get into musical production and audio engineering.
Not only for the fulfillment of the existential hole that resides in my brain, but for the benefit that
even just learning a task such as audio engineering could substantially improve my understanding and
overall quality of making music. Along with that, should I ever change my mind and decide once again to
fulfil my lifelong dream of being a big time musician I would have all the knowledge, capability, and
talent to become such a thing on my own.

On February 27, 2016 I was fortunate enough to actually have a conversation with the Bill Cutler,
singer/songwriter, producer and manager in San Francisco. All in all it was significantly more casual than
I had initially thought it would be. Cutler had carried a very warm welcoming tone from the very
beginning of the conversation. He smiled, and joked a lot in this time however I was able to still obtain
some very useful words of wisdom from him. Cutler had discussed how he had first gotten into producing
back in the 70s when he was working on a solo album of his own with musical assistance of Bob Weir
(The Grateful Dead) and Jerry Garcia. When I started my hand in producing, I wish I had been doing it
my whole life [...] Cutler says. Over the course of the conversation he was constantly stressing the
importance of how the youth needs to get more involved with music world saying:

Music is the solution to all the worlds problems. If we leave it only in the hands of
those who are old and withering like me then when we pass there will be no more
solution, only endless problems, we need to let the kids get involved.
Over all this assignment had opened the doors and allowed me to actually take a step
towards my future of making music in one way or another. And the experience of being able to
have a real life conversation with an icon like Bill Cutler was an experience that i will never,
never forget.
