Frankenstein
isfullofmanyincrediblyhorrificthemes.ItistrulyamasterpieceofGothic
literature.Thesethemesmakeitsomewhateasytomakeapredictionabouthowtheeventsofthe
storywillunfoldbytheend.Frankensteincreatesamonsterwiththeintentofbeingitsmaster
andrulerhewantedtobeagodamongthisnewspecies.FromthemomentFrankensteinrejects
hiscreationreaderscanmakeapredictionbasedontheprevalentthemesofdeathanddecayin
thisstory,thatoneofthemwillbekilledbytheendofthisadventure.

.Thesignsofhopeshownwhen
ElizabethhadcaughtScarletFeverbutherillnesswasnotsevere(18)aresoquicklytornaway
afterherrecovery.TheirmothercontactedthesicknessduetoherbeingElizabeth'scaretaker
duringherillness,whichleadstothemotherbeingOnherdeathbed(19).Thissuddenturnof
eventsshowsthatthisauthorwantsthereadertoseetheterriblethemesofdeathanddecay.With
thesethemessoapparentinthestoryitissafetoassumethatthemonstersstrangebehaviorHis
jawsopened,andhemutteredsomeinarticulatesounds,whileagrinwrinkledhischeeks(44)
thensuddenlydisappearsforeshadowsthatdeathanddespairisonitsway.
Frankensteinhadneglectedhiscreationanditnowhungeredforrevengeonitscreator
andhisfamily.ThismonstersfirstvictimwasamemberofFrankensteinsfamily:Williamis

dead!thatsweetchild,whosesmilesdelightedandwarmedmyheart(69).Thishorrible
creaturekeepswiththethemesofthestorywonderfullyasheissearchingforhiscreatorwiththe
intentionsofseriousbodilyharm.Itishardtoimagineexactlywhythemonstermaywantto
harmhiscreatorhowever,Frankensteinshowedanimmenseamountofrejectiontohiscreation
showinghisutterfeelingofdisgustfromwhathehadcreated.Thistraumatizingeventleadthe
monstertodespisehiscreatorhowever,nowthatFrankensteinrealizestheveryrealdangeritis
safetopredictthatbykillingWilliamfirstthemonsterhascreatedaveryrealdangerforhimself.
Attheverybeginningofthisstory,Mr.Waltonsetsoffonanexpeditionforthenorthpole
inwhichheseessomeverystrangethingsthatonemightnotexpecttobeontheice:...aman,
butapparentlyofgiganticstature,satinthesledgeWewatchedtherapidprogressofthe
traveler(xx).Themonsterhadbeenspottedandhewasonthemove!Astimegoesonthey
stumbleuponanothertravelerwhoisnoneotherthanDr.Frankenstein.Heisinaverybad
conditionwhenheboardstheboat,butissoonnursedbacktohealthandisContinuallyon
deck,apparentlywatchingforthesledgethatprecededhisown.(xxvi).Thetableshadturned
fromthemonsterhuntingdownFrankensteinandhisfamilytoFrankensteinhuntingforthe
monster.TheseeventsmustunfoldafterFrankensteinrealizesthathiscreationisafterhimwhen
Williamiskilledandheisnotgoingtoletthesamehappentoanyoneelse.
Oneofthesecharactersisdestinedtoperishattheendofthistale.TheGothicthemesof
Frankenstein
allpointtoatragicandhorrifyingendingthatwillleavethereaderscaredand
thinking.WhenFrankensteinoriginallyrejectsthatwhichhehascreateditleadsthemonsterinto
afuriousrageinwhichhewantstotakerevengeonFrankensteinandhisfamily.Atsomepoint
howeverthisflipsanditistheDoctorwhoisdoingthehuntingasweseeintheprologuewith
