Science Reflection
Science does not have its own section in the common core because its standards can be
found in the Next Generation Science Standards or NGSS or short. According to the NGSS, I
must be able to understand various life cycles, meteorological conditions and environments,
the interdependent relationships in ecosystems, forces and interactions, and lastly,
engineering. Part of the science standards indication that a teacher not only teach science but
have the ability fuse it with other subject, such as English. Doing hands-on projects where
students can observe and follow procedures are part of what NGSS is all about.
For my artifact I chose a lab report from my physics lab class. The lab was on colors,
specifically additive and subtractive colors combining. The lab is conducted during class time
and for homework, we type up the report and turn it in later. I really liked this lab because it
was hands-on. During my lecture class, I was hardly learning something. I believe the only
times I learned something alright was when we would have to participate in something other
than listening to the professor talk.
This lab shows the procedural steps we had to take to finish the lab. Those are level
one questions because the data tells me. The second part of the lab reports is usually 2-3
questions. These questions are synthesizing how well we understood the purpose of the lab.
We have to take what we observed and the patterned we learned and use that information for
the hypothetical questions.
