COMMENTS

I like that you bring up the connections back

to The Crucible, but I wish you had explained
to them the reason you were referencing this
play that they thought they were finished with.
To show them that these ideas of conformity
are relevant to Catcher since this play
features a character who rebels against
conformity. You started to bring it up a little,
but that might have helped to do up front.
Next lesson, you should write the learning
target/plan you want projected on the board.

Used learning time effectively.

I think this could have been made more clear

when you were introducing the discussion
questions.

N/O

Managed student behavior.

Checked in with all students frequently

(student status).

I also think you do a nice job of making sure

that kids are moving through the questions in
a timely manner I like that you reminded
them of the time and pacing. That helps get
kids moving who were going slowly.

COMMENTS

You do a great job of circulating around the

room to check on students. There were a few
who seemed to be confused with the societal
norms so maybe stopping them all to give an
example might have helped with that.

Arrangement of classroom encourages

discussion, collaboration and accountability.
Norms for learning were set up.

Students were motivated to want to participate

and brought to presence in the class?
Content was accurate and effectively
scaffolded.

COMMENTS

I think this activity was a good idea and had

an engaging opening (song). I do think that
you could have had them do less time with
their groups (since towards the end, there
were a few groups that were just hanging out).

Showed knowledge of content.

Showed pedagogical content knowledge by

utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and
methods that differentiate for individual
learning needs.

Demonstrating Effective Teaching

Practice
Expected, supported and provided the
opportunity for participation and meaning
making.
Utilized quality questioning techniques.

N/O

COMMENTS

You did a good job of getting them involved

with the lyrics, the discussion of the song, and
the worksheet. I would have liked to see
more emphasis on the class discussion at the
endto really talk about their responses and
make a more explicit connection to the
novel/Holden.

Assessment of Student Learning

Students are asked to assess their own
learning in relation to success criteria.
Assessment tasks are aligned with the
learning targets.
A variety of assessment strategies for
formative assessment were utilized.

It might have been good to have them spend

less time in small groups to allow more time
for class debrief and discussion. It is
important that they dont do the assignment in
isolationthat they understand why they are
doing this in connection to the upcoming
novel.
