My name is Mohammed Maidan and Im nineteen years of age. Its been
one year and a half since I started my studying journey in the United States. Im a
student who came from far away from here. I came from the other part of the
world, from a country full of heat, I came from Saudi Arabia. Moreover, Im a
freshman student who is majoring in electrical engineer. My first two months in
the United States were kind of hard; I had to get used to be far away from my
parents, and my loved ones. What helped me to overcome the struggle is soccer.
Soccer always gives you the opportunity to meet and create new friendships.
Have a hobby, and youll never find it an issue to create some new good
friendships.
Saudi Arabia has different traditions and type of life. Thus, a lot of Saudis
students may face and experience culture shock. Culture shock is an important
issue that causes a lot of consequences that only students and teachers may
observe. It causes stress that affects the student academic and personal life.
Personally as I mentioned earlier I faced some issues in my first two months,
however after the two months I had everything under control. Thats because by
that time I had met several friends who helped me to assimilate.

As an electrical engineer major, Im required to take both 1101 and

1102.Im a bit concerned, because I really want to do well in this class. Ill do my
best to ace the course. I hope to earn an A in the end.
My level in reading isnt that high but at the same time its not low. My
level in writing is better than my level in reading. Thats probably because my
major mostly focus on mathematics sciences, and circuits.

From my own perspective I think this quote was included in the syllabus
by the instructor to let the students know that they will have choices to take in the
class. They will be kind of free and will have the opportunity to show their
personality in their work. Each person has his own spark.
