To Whom It May Concern:
The current refugee crisis is the biggest since WWII, with Syrians now making up the worlds largest refugee
population (Tribunal News Service).
I am Sasina Eunirankul, a Sophomore at Antelope High School. Over the past year or two, I have heard
coverage of the Syrian Civil War and then the Syrian refugee crisis all over the news. In my honors English
class, we have read various articles on the Syrians in need of aid, as well as the international issues with letting
in Syrians. With 31 governors [who] turned their thumbs down on Obamas decision to accept 10,000 Syrian
refugees (Tribune News Service 1), I believe that the US government should rethink restricting refugee access
due to a need for humanity and due to masses of Syrians in need.
As of 2015, 31 governors have protested the admission of Syrian refugees[going] as far as to say that their
states will refuse to take them in (Tribunal News Service 5) while 11 million Syrians have fled their home for
safety (Tribunal News Service 4). People in the US have been divided on whether to admit the Syrians in or
prevent possible terrorist attacks. From 2011, 11.5 percent of the countrys population has been killed or
injured (Black 1). The US and Russia have made matters worse by joining opposing sides, while international
aid services have found it harder to reach citizens in need.
The Syrian refugee crisis is similar in the fact that US officials must determine whether or not it is safe enough
to admit foreigners with possible enemies, but different in the fact that the Syrian war is a civil war with varying
Syrians fleeing, as opposed to dehumanized minorities being forced out of Germany. During WWII, Some
were worried that the Nazis "would plant agents, spies and saboteurs among the Jewish refugees (Associated
Press 2) just like how now, ISIS attacks among refugees have prompted Americans to fear admitting Syrians.
Sol Messinger, a Jew that escaped Europe, spoke of how the danger Syrians face is less because of their
religion and more because their home country is a war zone (Associated Press 4), showing the contrast
between the two refugee situations. Thus, the Syrian and Jewish displacement issues both showed a fear among
Americans of enemy attacks, but opposed in homeland threats.
I hugely disagree with the governors decisions to keep the Syrian refugees out of the US. During WWII, Jews
were denied entrance into the US, prompting many to be forced into labor camps and death chambers. Six
weeks after Messingers family entered the US, all the remaining Jews in their village were sent to a
concentration camp (Associated Press 4). If the US can simply put fears aside, especially with the greater
security than other nations, Syrians can be kept from dying in their home country. Besides tightening security
and preventing more mass murders, the US should show terrorists that it is not afraid of the apparent terrorist
webs all around the globe. Isis [wants] us to believe they are everywhere[, they] want us to be afraid (Tribunal
News Service), so to show bravery is to discourage the enemy. If the government can tighten security and show
courage in front of terrorists, Syrians can be kept from great deaths.

Hopefully, as time passes by, the news can begin to announce that the US government chose to show humanity
in preventing Syrians from being killed by tightening security and staying solid in front of ISIS and other terror
groups. When voting for the refugee crisis occurs again, I would want the senator of California to vote for
refugee admittance. Thank you so much for your time, governor.
