Causal Analysis: Syrian Refugees

Due to recent terror attacks in Paris and Brussels, the decision of how to manage Syrian
refugees has been on the global leaders mind. The problem of letting in Syrian refugees isnt
just the fear of terrorists, but also the fear of disease and whether the country is capable enough

to provide for these refugees. The fact of the matter is that America is involved in more overseas
operations than most countries and that makes the U.S. a big target for these terrorists. Due to the
circumstances, it would be a threat to national security and the safety of the Syrian refugees in
America if they are all let in. The more Syrian refugees that come into this country means less
aid for the American homeless. Once Syrian refugees are allowed to enter the U.S., they will be
spread out all across America, and no longer be watched by the government. This could allow for
several consecutive terrorist attacks from every state in the U.S. which could seriously damage
the foundations for Americas future. For example, if one single slice of bread has mold on it, an
individual would not buy the whole loaf, the same applies for the Syrian refugees and the
terrorist that will unequivocally come with them. The impact that the Syrian refugees cant be
known until acts are committed and this lack of knowledge should be enough to keep them out of
this country.

Humans crave peace, yet use war and violence to attain it. This happens because in life
there can only be love and hatred, never a balance between the two. Humans will never be able
to accept one another or truly understand one another. This fact can easily be shown by the
citizens of Syria. Syrias citizens have craved peace for so long, and used war and violence to
attain it, so much, that their country has literally become stained with blood. The peace that they

all once craved so much, has now almost become a distant memory. The only dream of peace
that the citizens of Syria believe in now, is that a new country will take them in and allow them
to create a new life somewhere else. The only problem with this dream is that other countries are
no longer letting in refugees from Syria. This is happening because, ISIS terrorists are sneaking
in alongside the refugees. Other countries know that Syria is in dire need of help due to its past,
however, other countries already have problems on their own home front, they must also decide
if letting them in is worth the security risk of their own country, and whether its smart to let
refugees in with the knowledge of what has happened to other countries accepting them.
Syrias conflict began as a peaceful protests against the government in 2011, to a violent
insurgency that has drawn in several other countries. The civil war isnt a normal conflict
between two groups, but instead is based on several different races for power. The Syrian civil
war is based on the people against its government, a religious war between Assads minority
Alawite sect, against Sunni rebel groups, and also an increasing number of Russian and Iranian
forces against the United States and its allies. So far, the war has killed more than 220,000
people, displaced half of the countrys population, and created the group ISIS who has increased
the number of casualties in other countries accepting refugees (Zetter, 1).

The United States has become very sceptical when it comes to letting in Syrian refugees.
This has happened because there is little to no background information on the refugees coming
from Syria. Additionally, ISIS is a very real and scary threat that comes along side with Syrian
refugees. Without reliable background checks on the individuals the United States lets in, there is
no way of knowing whether or not an individual is or isnt a terrorist. By not knowing any
information on the Syrian refugees or whether or not an individual is a terrorist, the citizens of
the United States are very rejectful towards letting in these refugees. Not only could possible

terrorist come along with the Syrian refugees, but there is a major chance that new diseases will
be introduced into the U.S. population (BreitBart, 1). This creates the question of whether the
United States should even let any refugees in with such major security and health risks. In the
scenario, when an individual goes to buy a loaf of bread and sees that one slice of bread has mold
on it, that whole entire loaf of bread is considered contaminated, the same concept applies with
the Syrian refugees. Even if one refugee is contaminated or is a terrorist, American lives are put
in danger.
Some countries who have accepted Syrian refugees, have experienced major terrorist
attacks on its citizens. The most recent attack was on Brussels, which killed 35 people and
wounded over 300 more. Additionally, another major terrorist attack happened to Paris, which
left 130 dead, and hundreds more wounded. These terrorist attacks were the result of letting in
Syrian refugees and having access to full freedom in their new country. By letting in Syrian
refugees, one is risking the lives of its own citizens and the safety of its country. This can easily
be attained by simply not accepting refugees from Syria.
It may seem selfish to others if America refuses to let Syrian refugees in, however,
America has people on its own homefront who need help. There are over 500,000 homeless
people in America, and that number continues to rise each day. These individuals require all of
the same things that Syrian refugees do, however, they arent receiving what the refugees will be
provided. Once the Syrian refugees arrive to America, they will be provided three months rent
and free access to roam where they wish, however they must get a job and pay for the plane
ticket that allowed them to get to America (Welsh, 1). The United States is already too far into
their national debt to be providing such large luxuries to citizens of foreign countries, rather than

their own. By America aiding citizens of foreign lands, homeless individuals in the United States
will begin to feel unwanted by their own country.
Americans are a very protective country and dislike any changes made to it. Accepting
refugees and providing them everything that they need, defeats the entire purpose of the
American dream. The American dream, is that anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it
and work hard for it, however, these refugees are only providing a dream. They arent putting
any hard work into gaining this dream, but instead, are having it served to them on a silver
platter. Why should the rest of America work hard and suffer towards gaining their dreams, if
citizens from a foreign country will have it given to them? Citizens of America will not have
their hard work and efforts be put in the ground, and will instead rebel against the refugees. If
this happens the refugees will be harmed and American citizens will be harmed, and in the end
neither sides will have gained anything but pain and misery. All of this pain and misery can be
avoided, however, and all America needs to say is, no.
