Final-Globalization
Globalization has impacted the world as we know it today through feminism,
social media, and the environment. This idea that has shaped the globe around us is
defined as the development of integrated worldwide cultural and economic structures.
Globalization has allowed this new idea of feminism to come to rise and change the
culture of traditional gender roles. It has impacted the global environment by spreading
awareness of environmental concerns, more specifically, climate change. Globalizations
high success rate is due to the internet and social media, as they can spread the new
ideas in literally seconds. It is because of globalization that we now have new and better
opportunities in the 21st century, and without it the world would be much different
today.
Fortunately, one of the most crucial results of globalization is the idea of
feminism. This belief that men and women should be equal is vital for the cultural and
economic evolution of this world. To this day, men and women still do not receive equal
pay even if working the exact same job, same position, and same hours. Why is this?
Thankfully, the internet, social media, and globalization have allowed for the spread of
this popular idea to raise awareness about the cultural issues around the globe. For
instance, women in Saudi Arabia are still not allowed to operate a vehicle, yet just
recently they are now allowed to have the right to vote. In the year 2015, there are still
several groups of women that do not have the same rights as men just because of their
sex. The culture of this world is due to hegemonic masculinity which has resulted in

sexism across the nation. Globalization has allowed for the international spread of
feminism in order to hopefully evolve the culture of the 21st century world.
In addition to feminism, globalization has also promoted awareness about the
environment and the issues that lie within it. Due to a growing population, increased
desires for education, and a rising living standard, there has been a substantial increase
in production and consumption across the globe. As a result, economic and
environmental issues have surfaced and raised concerns in the 21st century. The supply
and demand of this world has increased dramatically, causing desire for cheap land and
the deforestation of the Amazon Rain Forest. Cutting down a substantial amount of
trees that supply us with the oxygen we need to breathe only adds to the environmental
issues. In 1992, the first Earth Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro, a meeting where
world leaders discussed the issues of the global environment, such as acid rain and rapid
water and oil consumption. Even though this Earth Summit did not have very successful
results, it demonstrated that globalization has indeed increased the spread of
environmental awareness. Without globalization, we may not be faced with the severe
environmental issues that have impacted the human race to this day.
Therefore, globalization has resulted in both beneficial and harmful effects in the
world today. It has increased awareness of the cultural issues across the globe, such as
hegemonic masculinity. Globalization has also caused issues in the environment we live
in today, like the deforestation of rainforests. Either way, it is globalization that has
shaped the world around us today.
