Lesson Focus: Skill Themes Rainbow Parachute Unit

# Of students: 20 Students

Equipment and Facilities: 1 full basketball court or 1


full field, 1Rainbow Parachute, three soft medium to
large balls.

Safety Considerations: The teacher will conduct the


dance activity in a quality learning environment. All
equipment used will be age appropriate and placed in
a safe manner to reduce the risk of any injuries. Each
student will be spaced out accordingly to help reduce
any conflict. The teacher will verbally review the rules
and expectations before the start of the activity. Before
the start of class, the teacher will have knowledge of
any health related issues the students may have, which
will be provided by the school. If an emergency occur,
the teacher will remain calm while transporting the
students to a safe environment or shelter, based on the
situation. If a student is injured, the teacher will stop
the activity and have the students seated away from the
injured student while the teacher notifies the proper
authorities of the childs injuries. Each student will be
aware of the teachers signals (whistle). All equipment
will be placed on the ground/ floor while the teacher is
providing instructions and the students hands will be
placed on or above their heads.

Behavioral Contingencies: The activities will begin


and end on the instructors cue (whistle). Students will
be given two warnings before having to sit out quietly
on the green bench for not following directions,
misbehaving, or any behavior that is not allowed in
Tiger Pride. The student will sit out for the remainder
of the activity. If a fight occurs, an adult supervisor
will be called to detain the students who were engaged
in the altercation. The rest of the students will be
seated out the way of harm until the situation has been
resolved.

Previously Learned Skills: Team building, cooperative


learning(communication).

Teaching Strategy: I will start the lesson using the


command style teaching strategy. The instruction will
be provided by using an interactive approach and
verbal cues to assist the students in understanding the
COTS that will be used during the soccer activity.

Academic Language: Some academic languages that


will be used are teamwork and communication.
Students will understand the differences between the
two.. Students will gain a strong sense of
understanding the importance of cooperative learning
during the rainbow parachute module. Students will
also understand why spatial awareness is important
during busy activities and planning in the rainbow
parachute activity.

Objectives:

Psychomotor (P):Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the rules of rainbow


parachute activity unit 50% of the time throughout the lesson.
Cognitive (C):Students will be able to accurately recite the the cues of the skill and
demonstrate it in class with 50% accuracy at the end of the lesson.
H-R Fitness (H): Students will be able to remain actively engaged in MVPA at least 50% of
the time during the duration of the rainbow parachute unit.

Lesson Core - Task 1:


Diagram Task 1
Students will be guided to their handle of
the rainbow parachute. Students must have
both hands on the handle at all times. For
this activity students will make waves with
the parachute by moving the parachute up
and down as fast as they can together.
When everyone has become comfortable
with this motion. Instructors will add one
ball at a time on top of the parachute and
will add more when possible. This will
happen while students are making waves.
Students must work together to make sure
that the balls stay on top of the rainbow
parachute and not fall off. Students will
continue to do this activity until the
instructor says freeze. In which students
will stop moving the parachute to they can
hear the next instructions for the next
activity.
Demonstration Plan:
The instructor will perform the activities
along with the students. In addition during
the activity the instructor will be there to
make corrections.

Lesson Core - Task 2:


Diagram Task 2
Students will be guided to their handle of
the rainbow parachute. Students must have
both hands on the handle at all times. For
this activity students will make waves with
the parachute by moving the parachute up
and down as fast as they can together.
When everyone has become comfortable
with this motion. Instructors will instruct
students to pull the parachute up as far as
they can without letting go and then
students will go inside the parachute while
holding the parachute at the same time as
they pull it behind them to sit to make a
rainbow parachute tent (try to do this a
couple of times for a couple for a few
mins). The next activity students that are
situated by a certain color. Instructors will
call one color in which students will run
inside the parachute when lifted to another
spot with a similar color that was not their
same spot they had before. Students will
repeat this activity for a few mintutes.
Demonstration Plan:
The instructor will demonstrate the COTS
with the help of a few students by walking
the other students through the skills and
correcting them during the activity. The
instructor will then have the students
practice the movements during the lesson
to further solidify the skill concept.
Questions to Check Understanding
The instructor will perform the activities
along with the students. In addition during
the activity the instructor will be there to
make corrections.

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES: While the students are participating in the Flag Football Activity, the
