Treating People Differently

People treat others differently for a variety of reasons. These could

be race, religion, gender, and many more reasons. These could be
instigated by hate, personal connections and many more. Here I will look
more in depth at these reasons. First up, religious reasons. Ed, a Jewish
child living in the 1950s in New York was brought up to fear anyone who
was different. I am a Jew and you are not, meaning that as children, we
were only allowed to relate to people who were like us, he recalls, and he
was only allowed to bring Jewish people to his house and if they werent,
then tough luck. Some religions practiced and still practice this now this
type of segregation and prolonged periods of this treatment could lead to
the person taking a different view on other religions, maybe seeing them
in a more negative light. This is sadly the case in many places in the world
and although we respect that this is part of a religion/cult etc etc we dont
want people to treat others differently.
People may also feel stronger and weaker and this can quickly
change the way people treat each other. For example, when I interviewed
my Aunt, Rosaria Invernizzi she noted that African adults and children
treated them as gods because they were born into an affluent
civilization while they were born into poor one. The Africans have
developed this opinion because firstly, the Whites were the people that
enslaved them in the 17th and 18th century and for many years, held the
key of their future, just like the Gods. Furthermore, when there was an
earthquake/ natural disaster/ White people or european people would be
the people providing aid and help, lifting them out of extreme poverty and
hardship. Nowadays Africans generally rely on Whites to give them help
and support, solidifying their positions as Gods for them.
We have looked at religion and financial status and race but now we
need to see when people dont fit the picture. In a study conducted by
Bart De Bruin, journalist for the blog Disability Horizons he went to a
Karaoke Club and sung until 5:00am in the morning. The day after, when
he had to get a present for a birthday party the day after, he went to a Toy
Shop. When he strolled in, the women greeted him, Bart who had no voice
tried to communicate using sign language. The woman at the checkout
immediately thought that he was different from everybody and used a
completely different tone of voice and made completely different remarks
than the customer in front of him. This made Bart thinking that if people
dont fit the picture they get treated differently. The day after, he
returned to the same shop and with his voice regained he tried to
converse with the same woman at the checkout. This time, the same

treatment still happened! This made me think that once you act
differently you everybody you met while acting differently thinks that is
your personality. This also happens in literature, as if a character does
something like going to prison when he gets out of prison people will call
him Jailbird . In Diary of Wimpy Kid, when Greg raids the changing room
he gets called the Stealth Ninja and then everyone in the school starts
calling him that, treating him differently than if he didnt raid the changing
room. If you were born different, such as August in Wonder you
immediately get judged by your looks and you get picked on more
commonly by bullies, such as Julian who taunt the person who is different
and criticizes the people who stand by him, such as Jack and Summer. The
same applies if you have a learning need as people judge you differently,
including teachers who tailor programs and lessons differently according
to her needs and people around him or her and people might react
differently to a person who had a learning need than a person who didnt.

This links to equality because you can be judged in a negative way

by your race, religion, status, financial status and any conditions you have
may affect the behavior of a person. People shouldnt be judged by who
and what they are but people should regard other people as human
beings of equal status. If you were a fireman who was battling a fire and
you had to save a certain number of people your decision should not be
affected by if a person you were saving was an African, an American, a
person with disabilities and etc etc but as an equal person.
