Content Area: Students will be exploring various New Years celebrations in Spanish speaking
countries while practicing subject pronouns.
Overall Goal: Students will be able to talk about what they learned the celebration in their
chosen country.
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to give a description of the celebration in their chosen country.
2. Students will be able to give the correct English to the Spanish subject pronouns.
3. Students will be able to provide the correct pronunciation of new vocabulary.
Standards Addressed:
Indiana Academic Standards
o Communication: Present information in a language other than English.
1.1.1: Share information about self and others in simple terms.
1.2.1: Understand and respond to basic greetings, requests, commands,
and directions.
1.3.1: Speak in simple, complete sentences to describe objects, self, and
others.
Materials: Students will need their iPads for most of the class. They will also need their new
vocabulary sheets.
Procedures:
1. Warm-up (5 minutes)
a. Students will be asked various questions including, Cmo ests? and Cmo te
llamas? They will be chosen at random by using the popsicle sticks at the front
of the class. They will also be expected to use their new vocabulary when
answering questions.
2. Vocabulary Repetition (5 minutes)
a. Students will need to pull out their vocabulary sheets so that they can follow
along with the teacher. The teacher will read through the vocabulary in Spanish
and the students will be expected to repeat after him.
b. This gives the students practice with pronunciation as well as having a chance to
say their new vocabulary words in class every day.
3. Practice with Subject Pronouns (5-10 minutes)
a. Students will be practicing pronouncing their new subject pronouns by repeating
after the teacher after he holds up a card with the pronoun on it.
b. Students will then practice giving the correct Spanish pronoun to the English
pronoun that the teacher provides. Because this is only their second day with these
pronouns, students will be allowed to use their vocabulary sheets.

4. Kahoot (5-10 minutes)
a. Students will now continue practicing subject pronouns by doing a Kahoot. The
Kahoot will involve the students choosing the correct English/Spanish subject
pronoun to the one given on the screen.
5. New Year Activity (15-20 minutes)
a. Students will now explore culture in other Spanish speaking countries by
researching how they celebrate New Years. Students will be working in pairs and
will choose the country they want to research from the list of countries that they
have learned in the past.
b. The teacher will start the activity by asking the class how New Years is
celebrated in the United States. After the teacher feels he has had a sufficient
amount of answers, he will begin talking about the activity.
c. Students will start the activity by researching on their iPads. They will need to
find enough information to make a 20-30 second video.
d. Once the students have enough information, they will be able to go out into the
hallway to film their video. In the video, they will need to detail what they
researched about the celebration in that country and any special ways they
celebrate it.
e. Whenever the students are done filming, they will need to send their video to the
teacher via email and begin working on the next activity that will be detailed on
the board.
6. Classzone (Until end of class)
a. Once students finish with their culture activity, they will need to begin working in
Classzone. This will be independent so they should not be talking. The students
know how to get to Classzone and what to do when they get there so the teacher
should be able to continue helping the students working on the previous activity.
Evaluation:
1. Formative Assessment:
a. Students will be assessed at the beginning of class through the use of routine
questions. Students should be answering these questions very quickly and
accurately at this point. If a student is struggling with any of these questions, extra
attention will need to be placed on him/her.
b. Students will also be assessed during the Kahoot and during the flashcard phase.
The teacher should be paying attention to who is picking up on the new concept
and who is struggling. Most of the students will be at an even ground at this point
but there may be a few outliers.
2. Summative Assessment:
a. There is not a summative assessment today but the students will have one on
Friday. The teacher should prepare the class for this assessment by asking them
questions during warm-up that prepares them for the quiz.
