Rationale: The student will identify the problem in the story The Rabbit and the Elephant.

Lesson Plan:

Introduction: (Anticipatory Set/Motivation): I will ask the students If they have ever heard of a folktale and get
them curious about what it might be and I will have them tell me what they think it is and then go in to explaining
what it is so we can start our read aloud.
Process: 1. I will start out telling the students what a folktale is.
2. Then I will introduce the vocabulary and hang them on the board.
3. Then I will tell them to listen carefully and identify the problem of the main characters of the story
because I have a very important job for all of them to do after were done reading the story.
4. I will then read the story. While reading I will think aloud about how the elephant is acting and
mention how the rabbit makes up a song and how I could see how fun it would be to sing it.
5. Then I will tell students that it is now their turn to show me what they know by acting it out.
6, The students will act the story out and once they are done we will go over a few questions to assess
their understanding.
Information Giving: What folktales are, the story about the rabbit and the elephant, telling students to look for the conflict in the
story
Modeling: Reading and thinking out loud about what is going on throughout the story, if students get stuck on what to say during their
acting I will help facilitate what they need to say.
Check for Understanding: I will ask the students a few questions about the story.
How did the elephant change from the beginning of the story to the end?
How is this folktale like the folktale The Talking Vegetables?
What does the author teach you about helping others?
Guided Practice: Reading aloud Story The Rabbit and the Elephant and thinking out loud about the characters actions

Independent Practice: The students will act out the story after having it read to them.
Closure/Culminating Activity: I will ask the students a few questions about the story.
