The Horizon Report acknowledges that

leaders understand that museums play a
very important role in Education. Therefore,
in order to maintain museums current it is
necessary to incorporate technology. Many
policies have been put in place to support
the implementation of such technology. In
addition, there are organizations such as
The Network of European Museum
Organizations (NEMO) that serves as a
liaison among museums across the
continent by distributing information about
policies and the impact that it has on
Education.
HISD works closely with Houston Museum
of Natural Science. They have partnered up
to bring children to the museum in order to
make science relevant and relatable.

Personal
Reflection

The Report talks about how museums have

become aware that the digital-age has
open doors to many online visitors. Thus,
museums invest a great amount of effort in
developing programs that utilize technology
to enhance the learning experience of their
online users. However, one of the biggest
challenges is the lack of funds, so a lot of
planning has taken place to reach out to the
private sector encouraging sponsorship.
At Deanda, we are constantly looking for
programs and applications that enhance
learning experiences for our students.
However, we fall short when it comes to
reaching out to the museums to better
serve our community.

Personal
Reflection

This Report talks about how museums

have had to restructure their departments
in order to include a more comprehensive
group of individuals. This group not only
understand how to effectively implement
technology but also coach their personnel
in order to have the skills needed to
enhance learning experiences through
technology. Moreover, museums rely on
data collected, through social media, to
gauge usage and type of audience.

a. Lead purposeful change to

maximize the achievement of
learning goals through the
appropriate use of technology and
media-rich resources
b. Collaborate to establish metrics,
collect and analyze data, interpret
results and share findings to
improve staff performance and
student learning
c. Recruit and retain highly competent
personnel who use technology
creatively and proficiently to
advance academic and operational
goals

d. Establish and leverage strategic

partnerships to support systemic
improvement

e. Establish and maintain a robust

infrastructure for technology
including integrated, interoperable
technology systems to support
management, operations, teaching
and learning

I work with organizing different field trips for

the students at DeAnda. I have not had any
representatives from the various museums
reach out to invite us to visit them whether
in person or virtually.

professional practice

c. Regularly evaluate and reflect on

their professional practice
dispositions to improve and

model and facilitate technologyenhanced learning experiences

Personal
Reflection
The Report assures that the museums will
involve their patrons even more in the next
two years. These changes will obviously
impact educational entities, and they have
the obligation to devise ways to integrate
teachers, schools, universities and
museums in order to improve the learning
experience. Consequently, school coaches
have to be well prepared to support with this
integration and the use of technology will be
essential to serve as a liaison between all.

As a coach I reflect on fact that I have to

become more knowledgeable on how to
use technology to enhance my students
learning. Helping teachers bridge the
gap that our school and museums have
will bring us, as a school community, to
a higher level.

The Horizon- 2015 Museum Edition

This Horizon Report was specially challenging for me since I have not have to work with
museums directly or indirectly. And as I read the report, I realized the very little knowledge I have on
how to use museums to enhance the learning experiences of DeAnda students.
I rated most of the standards a 2, not because they report did not address them in one-way or
another, but because I find my school and myself far from achieving them. I feel that we need to be
keener on why we take our students to museums, and actually work with museums to make the
experience relevant to our students. We need to not think of museums as just a field trip, but as an
learning opportunity that will give our students the real life experiences that so many of them need.
