Why it is important
How it affects my documentary

U27 LO1: Issues relating to your documentaryYou must now look at

the issues you will face with regard to opinion and bias slants
For each of the below issues you are required to:1. Explain what each
issues means and why it is important in factualprogrammes2. Detail
how you are going to overcome these issues in your documentarya.
Opinion and bias
Definition - A bias may be favorable or unfavorable: bias in favor of
or against an idea. Prejudice implies a preformed judgment even
more unreasoning than bias, and usually implies an
unfavorable opinion: prejudice against people of another religion.
Its when people talk about things but are one sided and dont give
even views and make people see things only one way.
Its important that most of the time things arent bias because it then
means people can see both opinions and not be lead in to one way
of thinking. So its good if people can make there own opinions on
the subject rather then forced feed the bias view of one.
With my documentary it will be slightly bias as ill talk mainly on the
good parts of Sweden. Although I will mention at the end that not
country is perfect, this makes sure Im not only saying good things.
However the main idea of the documentary is to make people see
the good parts and discover the culture of Sweden so it is slight bias
with this view.

Accuracy
(How are you going to gain facts and make it accurate)
definition the condition or quality of being true, correct, or exact; freedom fro
m error or defect; precision or exactness; correctness.

Its important because other wise people could just make up facts.
Also it means the facts and what they talk about is right otherwise
they could report on things wrongly and give fails statistics and
facts. And misinform people.
This means for my documentary I have to cross-reference my facts
and make sure any fact is true and up to date. Other wise my report
would be wrong. So I need to check the facts and where I got them
from. And make sure I show opinion and fact obvilsy different.

Balance and impartiality
Definition - (also called even handedness or fair-mindedness) is a
principle of justice holding that decisions should be based on
objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias, prejudice, or
preferring the benefit to one person over another for improper
reasons.
Its important as it goes with not being bias. It means giving both
sides of the argument and showing multiple opinions of the same
subject the audience gets a rounded view on the topic.
As for my documentary Im not report on a certain person or event
so as such there isnt really much for me to show both sides,
however I need be careful of not making it sound like Im not giving
even opinions.

Objectivity and subjectivity
Definition - Subjectivity refers to how someone's judgment is shaped
by personal opinions and feelings instead of outside
influences. Subjectivity is partially responsible for why one person
loves an abstract painting while another person hates it.
Objectivity is a noun that means a lack of bias, judgment, or
prejudice. Maintaining one's objectivity is the most important job of
a judge.
This is important because it means people dont try to push all there
opinions across and make people believe a certain thing because
they push it.

Similar to before, I need to make sure that the options I put forward
dont push people into one set of mind. Makin sure its a even view
on the topic.

Representation
Who is being represented and is it fairly or are you leaning towards your
opinion of that person?
Definition - the description or portrayal of someone or something in
a particular way.
This is important because its how you show people of things. It
means you should be fair when talking about people and making
sure you give a full and fair representation.
For my production I need to make sure I dont portray people in a
bad or unfair way.

Access and privacy
What access do you have are you invading anyones privacy gaining
the information?
The state of being free from unwanted or undue intrusion or
disturbance in one's private life or affairs; freedom to be let alone:
Tourists must respect the tribes privacy.
This is important because it means people cant just film who they
want and when they want. People need permission and cant just do
what they want.
For my production I need to make sure I have permission to film
where I am filming and have permission from those I am filming to
film them.

Contract with viewer

What are you promising the viewer and how are you going to stick to it?
Definition - a written or spoken agreement, especially one
concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be
enforceable by law.
The contract with the viewer is basically an unwritten rule that
means if you state your show is factual and interesting and then
describe what your show is about you have made a pact with your
viewers to supply them with the information you said you would as
well as it being precise, accurate and interesting.
This is important that people do what they say the documentary
will.
For my production I need to make sure I do enough research and
filming to make the content what it is meant to be.
