Abortion Rights
Pollitt, Katha. (2015). Pro: Reclaiming Abortion Rights. Vol. 62.
I chose this article because Pollitt talks about in her article how there are not enough
clinics in the United States for women to have an abortion. There are only two clinics in most
states, and in some states there are no clinics. In some of these states that have no clinics for
abortion, some mothers have miscarriages and the mothers are arrested for being accused of
murder. She also states that people should understand that mostly the women that decide to have
a baby are the ones who want a baby. The rest of the mothers are either forced because they cant
have an abortion either because of family issues or the government doesnt allow it.
Peters, Rebecca. (2014). Considering Social policy on Abortion: Resecting Women as Moral
Rights. Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, 30(1), 129-138.
In this article Peters states how women should have the same significance that men do.
Women have to go through such hard times whether it is deciding to keep the baby or have an
abortion, and for men it is so easy for them to simply walk away without anyone telling them
anything. The states that allow women to have an abortion make all the mothers go through a
program called the AUL. The AUL (womens ultrasound right to know act) is a program
basically that all mothers that are going to terminate their baby must go to at least two ultrasound
appointments before going through this procedure. This program is to help mothers to share a
bond with their child and show the complications of an abortion and to not follow through with
termination. However the women that do go into these clinics have already made up their mind
100% before walking in.
Linton, Paul. (2015). BYU Journal of Public Law. Company National Issue Right to Life
Committee, 30(1), 83-121.
I chose this article because many people think that when a woman has an abortion, the
baby is fully grown. However that isnt the case at all, most abortions happen before 20 weeks.
This is when the fetus is barely starting to grow. Linton also states that not all women get
abortions because they dont want the child. In some cases the mother may have an abortion due
for medical reasons. Either there is something is unhealthy with the mother or with the child.
McDonagh, Eileen. (1999). My Body. My Consent: Securing the Right to Abortion. Albany Law
Review, 60(3), pg. 1057
The Case of Roe .vs. Wade was the biggest case because it let women terminate their
pregnancies. Although the states would somehow get involved and put certain restrictions on
mothers seeking for termination. McDonagh states that as long as the government is involved in
this situation she says it is unconstitutional. No one should be in someone elses privacy, even
more so when it has to deal with their own body. She says instead of the government giving

mothers such a hard time for this decision, the government should help them in funding some of
their abortions if they are medical.

This article explains what happens when a mother decides to get an abortion. It explains
during and after of what a mother goes through for this procedure. Most people tend to think that
having an abortion is an easy procedure. However it is not, its probably one of the hardest
decision a women will put herself through. The first problem a women goes through is all the
money she will be spending. The second is the actual procedure. A cervix is not meant to be
opened in a minute. Many women have died lying on the table and even had complications after.
These complications can lead to never having a child again, because the mother has miscarriages.
Lastly after a mother undergoes this procedure, some mothers have nightmares, stress, and even
lead to depression.

http://www.bloombergview.com/quicktake/abortion-and-the-decline-of-clinics
The reason I chose this article is to indicate how many clinics are slowly closing each
year in the United States. In the states Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and
Wyoming, only one clinic remains in these states. Which means that women who want an
abortion have to leave there home town for this procedure. All women should have access to an
abortion clinic in their home town. There are eleven in Texas and state laws want to get rid of all
clinics. If there are no clinics for women to get an abortion in the United States, now women will
have to fly out of the country to terminate her pregnancy.

This article talks about the women who are unable to have abortions because these
women have sexually transmitted diseases. Women with STDs are more likely to be uncared for.
Some doctors will not do the procedure. This is another problem we are facing because not only
do they not treat these women, but some babies after they deliver can also have the diseases as
well when they are born. It all depends some dont receive and some do.

This article talks about the two different groups in the debate of abortion. The first group
are called Pro-Life. These people are the ones who think that the government has an obligation to
preserve all human life. The second group is called Pro-Choice. These people are the ones who

think the government should leave them alone. As long as they are doing it to their own bodies
and not others, the government shouldnt have a say.

Emotions One Week after Receiving or Being Denied an Abortion in the United States.
Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health. 45(3). Pg. 122-131.
Women that are unable to get an abortion in the United States have said to be angered and
stressed after clinics told them they werent able to have this procedure. If they werent able to
have an abortion, then they must carry the child. This can anger a mother because they wanted to
have an abortion for some reason. So when the country the live in tells them they cant they
become very angry with themselves. It can even go as far as hating the baby they are carrying. I
think this is a bad idea to not let a women have an abortion if she wants one because this is when
people go to extreme measure as far as murder.

Retrieved from http://www.bustle.com/articles/17141-how-to-argue-pro-choice-11-argumentsagainst-abortion-access-debunked
I thought this article was the best one so far, I chose it because its something Ive always
thought. The first argument is babies are human and have a right to life. However Millstein states
the fetus cant survive on its own without the mother. We have a choice to donate our organs and
if we dont want to donate we have the right not to. So why cant mothers have the right to
decide what they want to do with their body in this situation. The second argument is if a women
can have sex then she can take the responsibility of her child. However I think that everything a
human does has consequences. The third argument is give the baby up for abortion once is born,
although child birth is very dangerous and women can die while giving birth.

The main concern that the people have for abortion is the lack of education schools are
providing to adolescents. There is not enough safe sex education being taught in schools, and
even in some schools students are not being taught at all. Sex needs to be taught to young adults
about the consequences of being sexually active. Teachers should be able to openly teach about
certain methods to being sexually active such as condoms, rape, birth control, the after pill, and
even diseases.

This video talks about why people should be prochoice and what mothers think of when
they are about to have an abortion. In this video the students talked about why women tend to get
abortions the first reason could be a teenager still in high school. The second is trying to graduate
and make to college without failing and having to raise a child. The third could be maybe in the

http://www.theatlantic.com/notes/all/2016/01/personal-stories-of-abortion-made-public/423831/
I chose these personal stories because it gives us an insight on real stories of women who
have underwent surgery for abortions. It also talks about why they decided to have an abortion
and if they regretted their choice after having one, most said they didnt because of the
circumstances they were in at the moment. Some even said that as they walked into the clinic
protesters were standing outside telling them they were going to hell for having an abortion. No
one should make a person feel terrible of what they want to do with their own body.
Abraham, Laurie. (2014, October 14). Abortion: Not Easy, Not Sorry. Retrieved From
http://www.elle.com/culture/career-politics/a14837/the-abortion-choice/
This article talks about that women that have an abortion shouldnt let others make them
feel guilty about their decision. If mothers that dont feel guilty for having an abortion people
think they are wrong with them. That they have no emotion or sympathy. If women have an
abortion society looked at them like monsters. Once people even find out about a mother having
an abortion they call them sluts and whores.
Smith, Sharon. (2013, November 1). Abortion: Every Womens Right. Retrieved From
http://socialistworker.org/2013/11/01/abortion-every-womans-right
This article talks about if women dont have control over their own reproductive lives,
then women are not equally to men. Instead of abortion being a right in the United States, it is
more of a privilege. People need to understand that it takes two to make a baby, and the blame is
entirely on the mother when it shouldnt be. Why does the mother have to go through all this by
herself? It is so easy for a father to leave and have nothing to do with the child, but they never
get any hate from society.
