Dear

Administration,

I am writing to express my interest in the BLANK Grade Science Teacher position at BLANK Middle
School. I am currently completing my bachelors degree in Secondary Education General
Broadfield Science at Montana State University. I receive my Montana Teachers Certificate with an
endorsement in Broadfield Science May 2016.

My experience as a professional educator has offered immense benefit to my growth and
development professionally and personally. I have taken advantage of a number of opportunities;
the most influential was participating in educational research programs with professors from
Montana State University to develop a STEM curriculum to help increase student interest in STEM
related fields, specifically in engineering and science. I have been directly involved with developing
two separate STEM curriculum aimed at increasing student interest in STEM fields. Utilizing a wide
variety of resources such as discovery based labs, gamification, and modern technology. These
types of resources and skills are examples of the types of differentiated lesson models I design for
my diverse students.

As a student teacher at Glacier High School I was fortunate to work with a motivated and fun group
of students who I guided through a semesters worth of content. In this time I prided myself on
designing and readjusting lessons as I saw fit to further engage student learning and encourage
discovery and exploration of scientific content in the classroom. I welcomed the opportunity to
design and implement new educational strategies into my classroom for the benefit of student
concept mastery and application of content.

The opportunity of working with 8th grade students at Manhattan Middle School in a science
curriculum was a very impactful experience during my time as a pre-service educator. When
comparing my experiences in the middle school classroom and the high school learning
environment, I realized that educational philosophies must be adjusted. In freshmen biology
students are preparing for future science courses, whether it be earth science or chemistry; the
biology curriculum is the first class that many students may find challenging in their academic
careers. It is a time for discovery and understanding the value of the knowledge and how this
newfound information may be applied academically and socially. Whereas in 8th grade the science
curriculum is similar to freshman level science courses, there are two main differences: first, rather
than discovery, students are exploring new concepts of science, understanding that phenomenon in
the natural world can and do have an explanation, that there is more to the world around them than
initial observation. Secondly, middle school is a time of exploration and preparation; students are
going through a variety of changes and for the first time are getting a glimpse of what their
educational future has in store for them. It is crucial that during this time of development and
exploration that students are given the appropriate tools for success in their future academic and
social adventures.

I have a desire to help prepare the students of BLANK Middle School for their academic and social
futures by inspiring students to give their best in and outside of the classroom, to give back to their
community, and inspire them to be productive members of society.

The attached resume will give you an idea of my background and experience. I look forward to
speaking with you to learn more about Science Teacher position at BLANK Middle School.

Thank you in advance for your time and review of my qualifications.

Sincerely,

Dietrich K. Perchy
